Accuracy is still top notch. Every few years making a trip to the Rolex Centre for its free lifetime battery replacement. It's been a 'pilgrimage' of sort LoL.

If I ever considered such a model, I think I would like to get the best of both worlds (oyster quartz case & mechanical movement) = ref. 1630 or 1530!
I have seen some of this case with mechanical movement. I heard that they are very rare.
Anyone knows more about this variant?
Hello jonrus: Yes, the models 1530/1630 which employ the same case used later in the Quartz model but with fitted an automatic movement reference 1570 are very rare as only 1.500 watches were made.
So they might be considered a "semi prototype".
Both the 1530 all steel rerference called Oyster Perpetual Date and the ref 1630 Steel gold variant called Oyster Perpetual Datejust where introduced in 1975 and produced till year 1977 (a few were assembled in very early 1978) when the Quartz version was launched.
The 1530 was the first Rolex fitted with a sapphyre glass.

PS : I’m sharing a picture of my 1630 which regrettably has a wrong bracelet which belongs to a TT Quartz model. The correct bracelet should have three gold links in the middle.
Probably the original owner had the original broken and couldn’t find a correct replacement. This example is one of the last watches made as per its serial number.
Hello Mech: This is a wonderful Rolex. I´m not very fond of quartz watches (though I own a few of them) but this is a watch I really love...
... and as a matter of fact I own four of them. The first one I bought In Geneve around 1982 as a souvenir of my trip there. It has been receiving its free battery every four or five years from the local Rolex service department and never requiered any service.
The last one I bought a few years ago when I found one in a local AD resting in their stock completely NOS and could not resist taking it home.
I know it is not very popular model among Rolex lovers but it is a shame as I feel it is a true jewell.
