So, you don't want a Panerai....

 By: sergio : June 12th, 2013-17:20
you want a watch that has...everything...you need and that is "branded" Panerai. Why don't you throw in an automatic movement, for good measure, and buy a 320, 321, 351? They are 44mm, 1950 case, and they have..acceptable...Panerai dial. GMT, dates (the 321 also has the PR). Top of the crop, the 351 has also a very nice "tobacco" dial, golden hand and a titanium case, which is not as heavy as the SS ones. The cost of all the 3 models is well withing your budget (and then some)
The 233 it's a handsome model but, when you'll have a look at the models I've just suggested, you'll figure out what a "busy" dial is...
Cheers

ps I haven't quite figured out what SD means.. smile

Perhaps SD = simple dial ? (Nt)

Sorry! SD=sandwich dial ;-)

I thought that this is the used shortcut, sorry sergio ;-)
Your suggestions are good, but I don´t want titanium (until yet, never seen or tried before) and PR as it is in these models (I like the linear PR).
Tomorrow I´ll will go to the next big city (Munich) an try some models, 351 too.
Compared to 233 I don´t think that your proposals have busy dials (exept 321 maybe).
Concerning Automatik I´m not sure, because "real Paneristi" say, a true Panerai is only one with hand wound caliber; what do you think?
Would PAM233 be a choise for you?
Hope to read you soon!
Cheers
Daniel

Sorry but, you're not looking for an..orthodox..Panerai..

anyway, so what's the big deal with an automatic movement? If you want to buy a P A N E R A I, you buy a 232, 249, 372, 000  etc not a 'watch' with a date (anatema) and a GMT. I had a 233 and after a couple of weeks, I couldn't wait to give it away. When I finally did, I was happier than I had been, on the day of my...divorce smile
Ciao (since I'm Italian)

An the winner is...

Mille grazie!
I think I got it!
Went today to Panerai Boutique in the Big City and tried some models: It´s the 422! I Think she´s got everything a Panerai needs. After the choice of 47 mm (which looks really fantastic on my 7,5`` wrist) Fiddy would be my absolute favorite (9+3+small sec.;-)), but if I take that one, my divorce is guaranteed ;-) Can you live with the small second, Sergio? I need some action on the dial!
Ciao
Daniel(e)

I think you made a terrific choice....

not my first choice, maybe, but definetly a handsome watch and a through and through Panerai smile Can I live with the small seconds? They say a picture is better than a thousand words smile

BTW Welcome to the Panerai's world...
Ciao

Grazie,

grazie, grazie, mio "fratello in spirito" ;-)
Your 127 an 217 are amazing, my final stages! Not by now, but I need goals! Could be kind of boaring, to start with the PAM203 as the first one ;-)
Why the 422 not for the first one? After trying the 1950 cases, I´m not sure anymore, if PAM510 would be a great choice, as I know, how a PAM111 is to wear. 8 day´s man!
Ciao bello!

Today´s Dealer´s shot! (Sorry for the size, as a forum rookie I need some more tries ;-)

Awesome congrats!! :) [nt]

Enjoy your 422. I like the 422 over the 372.

if I were to a get a second panerai, the 422 or 190. I really like the 449 but felt it was a little too big on the wrist.

here is a picture with my 5001.

the 422 is a 47mm - 1950cased..chunky...luminor and you would buy that..over..the 449, which is a 47mm
"slim" Radiomir (which you find..big)? You've really got me puzzled there, where's the logic?
Cheers

Yeah l agree my logic may not be so sound...

I guess when I tried on the 422, perhaps with the proportions, the lugs, etc... It didn't seem "too" big on the wrist. When i tried on the 449 for what ever reason it seemed bigger on the wrist. Size is often a relative impression and or mindset and since I didn't  try the two watches in the same time... I may have been feeling "big wristied" when I tried on the422
