What are your thoughts on the Panerai PAM521 & PAM522?

What do you think about the bezel on the below PAM521 and PAM522 with Minerva movements?  Do you think it works?  Yes or No?


I think it looks awkward because the Radiomir case is polished while the bezel is caseback shaped and and brushed finished.

Another thing is the story behind this watch.

If I got it well, it is said that this is the replica of a proto.

IF the proto in question ever existed...

The outcome iis akward. The price is prohibitive. A Pam 198 with a large bezel, at the double of its price, with a Miunerva movement.

I have doubts about that " prototype "....

I tried to find if I had a photo of it, it seems that my hard disc doesn't allow " strange " watches, as I don't have any.

It is obvious they did not want to let the cat out the bag on this one.  But then why did they bring it to SIHH??
Thoughts??   Perhaps it will be officially introduced soon.  Maybe it is so limited that they feel it is better not to
have to much public exposure?  In any case the price/cost will be prohibitive to most buyers......

Is this piece still embargoed ??

Hoping for one with the fonts/ lettering on the top bezel and about 7X cheaper than the platinum. lol!!

a dial without 9. As for the models themselves, I find them a bit too...dainty. If I look at them as mere timepieces, they look pretty good, though...

I would be happy to own one, but I'm not loving these.   The thick bezel, while not bad looking, to me, detracts from the finer aspects of the finished Radiomir case.

And for Radiomir cases, I think they should all be polished case & polished bezel.  Rads with polished case and brushed bezel don't look as elegant IMO.

I really don't care for this case. The thick bezel clashes with the wire lugs. Not fully dress or sporty. Not for me.

and I'd snap one up in a second if they'd make one in stainless steel.
they have their roots in the 3646 type A and I actually like the bezel clean : )
different strokes for different folks I guess.
one thing for sure is that op actually do have a lot more permutations to explore contrary to being saturated.

IMHO they were the most "interesting" pieces of 2013 for Panerai.

Don't know if they had an official introduction as these pieces were embargoed for a while.
Their prices would certainly be a hinderance to most......

But still one of the more interesting pieces of 2013.

expensive than the 521 or 522.  
Best of all maybe they could put the fonts/ lettering on the top around the bezel instead 
of the backside??  I certainly hope so.

I bet there will be some permutations to come.   Currently we have:

1. Minerva movement

2. Sub second

3. Tabacco brown dial

4. Precious metal case

5. smooth bezel

6. 47mm

So you start substituting w/ different options and mixing & matching the combo.    The question is will we EVER see the exact 'hommage':   47mm SS case, no sub-second, tabacco/black dial and 'printed' bezel?     I would be perfectly happy if OP would just go thru the  'brief evolution' as witnessed in SLC?  i.e. PAM373 then PAM449 the following year?

I would agree that the bezel and case do not seem in harmony - at least from the pictures shown. 

Seems like the bezel is overwhelming the case - but what do I know?
