Officine Panerai

A couple years ago I purchased a PAM 219. I really loved the watch, except when it was on my wrist. It was just too big for my tastes so it left my collection. When Panerai introduced the 337 a couple years ago it caught my eye. It featured the two-layer dial that I have always liked and at 42mm it was right in the size range that I like. During the Purists/Panerai dinner in Beverly Hills back in June I was informed that it was being discontinued. The next day I stopped by the boutique planning on putting a deposit on one but luckily for me they had a 337 in stock. What a great watch! The more I wear it the more I like it. The only thing I can't figure out is why I waited so long to buy one!

A decentyl sized case with some horolgical content ( Piaget movement ) and a clean dial.

Maybe one fo the best offer for those who don't want to build an hard core collection of Panerai watches.

I have always liked Panerai's DNA. The two layer dials, crown protectors (on Luminors) and shape (on Radiomirs), and the general case styles. I just didn't feel the large sizes worked well on my wrist. As a result I will never be a serious Panerai collector. That being said I already have my eye on a PAM 392. The 42mm size combined with the 1950's style case, two layer dial, and crown protector hit all the sweet spots. It also happens to look damn good on my wrist, as seen in this photo Ed posted from the Purists/Panerai dinner earlier this year:

I'm sure that, after some exposure to...things Panerai....a 44mm model won't look so oversized to you, anymore. Enjoy your 337...

I'm not sure that I'm going to get used to the larger offerings from Panerai. I did previously own a 219 Destro and found it to be just too big for me. Now if my wrist size were to somehow increase that might change, but I don't think that is likely! I'm actually trying to loose a few pounds, not gain them!

I've always thought that Panerai should also elicit an...attitude....that goes beyond wrist or watch dimensions. With this, I'm not suggesting you'll go after an Egiziano Grosso anytime in the future but, a 44mm vs a 42mm, could come down to...brawn+attitude+individual statement...

Thanks. As for the new ride, Hell Yes! I still absolutely love it. What a magnificent machine. I still chuckle a bit every time I press the start button and hear/feel the engine roar to life. The only problem with the CL is that is is causing me to ignore my Defender 90 and Delorean.

Since I had a Panerai before I still had a couple of straps and buckles floating around. I did have the brown strap in the pictures custom made for the 337 though. I felt that some of the straps I had were a bit too thick for the new watch. The new strap is a little thinner that I would have preferred, but well within acceptable limits and really works well with the watch.

Attending our Panerai dinners is not so good for the wallet eh?

The PAM392 is a great compliment to your PAM337, so hope you get one of those as well.

I suspect that I indirectly paid for the Purists/Panerai dinner : ) From a marketing standpoint it worked well for the boutique, particularly if I buy a 392 in the near future. I've got to admit that at this point I expect I'll have a 392 no later than January (presuming there is one is in stock or readily available when I end up pulling the trigger). Now that I wrote that it occurs to me that I am going to buy a 392. It also occurs to me that the idea of waiting until later in the year is a completely artificial restriction, particularly since as of Tuesday the boutique has one sitting in their inventory. Tomorrow might be interesting......

congrats on your acquisition. every collection needs a PAM to count itself complete. why not something from its Luminor range, then a Radiomir? I am more a Radiomir guy myself too.

Looks like the pattern for me is Luminor (no longer in the collection), Radiomir (unlikely to ever leave the collection), and now new Luminor. I'll post more soon.

Congrats again rovermark on your 337.  Looks great on your wrist.
I'm surprised that Panerai is already going to discontinue this watch.  Glad to hear that you were able to pick one up from the boutique.

I'm surprised that they are discontinuing it soon soon as well. Funny how it worked out. If I hadn't attended the Purists/Panerai dinner and found out that it was discontinued I probably would have missed out on getting one new. I had been thinking about getting one for a while, but figured there was no rush as my understanding was that it was a regular production model.

luminova dials....but in the case of panerai is almost inevitable given the recent collection.
