So - as I said, I decided to dip my 339's buckle in a glass of scotch.  Here is the video.

so alcohol doesn't seem to be a big problem

 

Unless the buckle isnt made of composite - I dont see any issue. 

I will drink some scotch this weekend and i'll rub a little on the case.  I would like someone to confirm or deny that the buckle is composite or not. 

It is interesting though that there are caseback issues - I think its the moisture of sweat buildup which fades the coloring in the dye. 

and going ahead with the experiment...looks like it was a success!

it's not instant (I hope not for the sake of your buckle).....so I'll stick around for any updates...

is that it doesn't exist. I have no idea as to whether the buckle is made of the same material of the watch.....

Nothing to report. Buckle is fine.

maybe it's a mixture of sweat, perfume and some other manly chemicals?  throw some salt into that glass....  warm skin rubbing the composite also plays a factor...  composite really doesn't have a track record or detailed history so it's quite possible that numerous factors can affect it. 

And the comments mentioned on this and various other fora are directly related to alcohol, and alcohol that we may consume as humans. 

I was originally told when I bought my 339 not to ever spill beer or scotch on the watch as it would discolor the case. 

That's Bull Shit! 

I proved it - and now all the cyber-jerks who are spreading these false rumors can see the video evidence that SCOTCH DOES NOT HARM THE COMPOSITE.

That's all - that's all I was trying to point out. 

There are so many rumors on the internet - I wanted to bust this myth. 

MYTH - BUSTED! 

BTW..thanks for posting again...

but someone posted ( Blunote ?) that Panerai warned about discolouration with alcohol.

...The notion that these composite materials and coatings are indestructible...  Small superficial scratches yes... bomb proof NO...  sweat proof NO...  Manufacturer says beer NO...   drop proof NO...  

So what's with the premium price for these "state of the art" materials?  

Just skin deep i suspect...
