I am told that it is a PVD movement, thus a K series, but I will only really know tomorrow hen I see it ine the flesh.
The fact that you sere delivered a K series after 2.5 years leads me to beleive that I might be as liucky and get one too.

After I pick it up tomorrow (the AD is open because of the Xmas season), I will provide more details notably confirm that it is a K series.
Pictures will follow after christmas because I intend to let santa claus offer it to me as an Xmas present, thus I will ask the AD to gift wrap it.
I have waited for it for more than two years, so I figure that a few extra days won't matter in the long run. Will make for a real Xmas.

As the Panerai moderator maybe you can help me. I took delivery of the pam 317 today after having had lunch with Vlad (he didn't bight me) and it is an L series. I can't tell whether the movement is PVD treated or it is just the glass back that is smoked, very tricky to determine in my opinion and the AD said that it was.
Do you have the exact detials from Panerai regarding the L series?
Because if it isn't a PVD movement, beleive me Panerai is going to be hearing from me.
It would be like ordering a car with a Turbo engine and having the builder deliver a simple gas engine at the same price.
For the moment, I would like to beleive that the L series is PVD treated same as the K series.

George, it is very difficult to tell, but
why don't you post a picture of the watch.
To my knowledge only the K-series have the black movement. I have seen L-series in reality now and compared them to my K-series and it was quite clear that the L-series had the smoked glass and were completely different than the K-series.
If you look at the back side of the watch, do the letters that are engraved on the movement have a little blue-ish teint? If so, it is the normal 311 movement. The K-series is all black, and even the engravings have been coated black.
I would find it extremely weird if Panerai would issue some L-series with the PVD movement and others with the smoked glass.
But a high resolution picture of your watch would help. Otherwise, have a look at my picture of a K-series that I posted in this thread. If yours does not look like that you should go back to the dealer and bitch-slap him...... At least that is what I would do after waiting for 2.5 years and then still be sold a lie....

Well, if your 317 is indeed an L serie
it would have been our first sightings of the L series and we're all keen to see whether the L serie 317 are indeed fitted w/ normal movement w/ smoked crystal caseback.
There can be many info from various 'officials' but as we have learned from history, the degree of accuracy can varies widely, which is why we're all keen to see the movement off any L serie movement.
If you looked at the gold colour from some of the brass wheels or the pink colour from the jewel and perhaps compared to another similar watch (PAM311?), do you notice any difference?

I have already sent an e-mail to Panerai asking for confirmation of the status of the watch's movement and I called the Paris Panerai boutique today and they said that they would get back to me with an answer.
I will keep you posted.
As the watch is now gift wrapped for Xmas, it is a little hard to give it a look.
I told Panerai that could bring it back to the boutique if need be. Thing is they don't know the response to my question either.
