Officine Panerai

Got the 28lb package earlier and have to say I am beyond words...as nice as it has been every time I have seen the 300 now that this one is mine I am extremely happy and now totally loving the Mare...
A little history for those that do not know it...the Original Mare Nostrum was created in 1943 by Officine Panerai for the Italian Navy for deck officers but due to events in WWII it never went into production and stayed a prototype..
The term Mare Nostrum(Our Sea referring to the Mediterranean in Roman Antiquity) dates back to communications between Guido Panerai and the Royal Italian Navy in 1924 wanting a special chronograph built for them in La Spezia...
Having seen the original Prototype Mare I am amazed what a wonderful job Panerai has done with the 300...what they did to specialize the movement just shows how far they have come...anyways here are some quick and dirty pics of my latest addition and last for 2010

But i was writing in response to what you wrote when Sam posted about his encounter with the PreV, you sounded very much "against" the PAM 300?

Pardon me if i read you wrong then!

But the PAM 300 is a superb piece in all ways, and i can't wait to get mine soon!

And merci beaucoup for the link to that post you wrote in depth on the PAM 300, i wonder if i did say thank you for you then? If not, MERCI BEAUCOUP!

I have never paid attention to a Mare before, but your pix and it's nice movement caught my attention. I really what to know more about the movement! I'm a sucker for a great movement!

that is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS.!!

 WOW.  don't know where to begin describing how Beautiful it is.!! the Dial, Movement, Case, Push Buttons ,Strap ... it's just so Nice all around..AND most importantly is that you pulled it off Nicely :0))))) looks Great on your Wrist..

 BTW, i thought the Dial was Black.!! but appears to be Brownish/Black  (like the 232) ??!

and oh..! Thank you for the History of the MN. i didn't know it was only a Prototype .!

I got to see that at a recent PPro Panerai GTG and it was a pretty cool piece.  Too big for me, but looks good on you.

The Mare Nostrum is a compelling watch in all its several past variations, but this re-edition is perhaps the most compelling of all.  What a catch!  I also just love the name of this watch:  Mare Nostrum!

Your watch collection is enviable, my friend.  I always admire just how much joy you seem to get from all of your watches.
