... 339 is still limited (although 1500 pieces, which will likely be equivalent to 3 yrs production, whereby I just assume one millesimation of 500pcs per year, of the 386) has the 8 Giorni Brevettato writing and more importantly the Marina Militare writing on it, probably for the last time on a Panerai watch.

True, for people that are not to fuzzed about little words, history etc etc but just care about the aesthetics, the 386 would probable do just as well. But for true collectors, the original version, with links to the past, has always proven to be the most coveted one. 

But most certainly a very appealing watch this 386! It will look very cool in my watch showcase next to the 339
