Officine Panerai

Hello there, my first post so go easy on me please! ;-)

I'm going to buy a Panerai and have narrowed it down to 2, the 000 or the 112.

I have four Breitlings but have been hankering over a Pam for a while now. My other watches are quite busy in terms of the dials and I just want something clean, simple and elegant which I think the 000 and the 112 represent.

Anyway I have a couple of days to lay down a deposit so I need to make a choice. I like the 000 because of the logo at the bottom,simple! I like the 112 because of the open case at the back and of course because the dial is very clean again. I'm probably edging towards the 112 just now but just wanted some of your experienced thoughts.

As I'm not on the mainland I have to pay the deposit then collect the watch when I'm at the AD in 6-8 weeks in which time he has told me they will have a 312 in stock!!!!

I really like the 312 but have not tried it on so I'm not 100% sure about it. I have tried on the 000 and the 112 but I've been told the 312 is slightly thicker and the case and glass are shaped differently which I have trouble seeing on the pics of the watches so I imagine these differences are very slight.

Oh well, choices choices.

I would be glad to hear of your thoughts on this.

The logo is a great piece as is the 112. I have a 177 that I love for the sandwich dial and display back, pretty stunning to look at. That said, the 312 is a great ref because it has the in-house movement for really not too much more than the 112. If it were me I'd go with the 312.

From what you've said, I would suggest getting the PAM000 first.  You like the Panerai Pre-V logo, and there are very few models with the logo on the dial.

If you were going to get a 2nd Panerai in the future, I'd pass on the PAM112 and get the PAM312.  The PAM312 will have a slightly different case shape and you'll then have your display back that you like in the PAM112.

That would be my suggestion.  You can go wrong with either.  Just beware that once you buy your 1st Panerai, I have a feeling your Breitlings will feel lonely

You can't go wrong with all three of them. But I agree with Anthony, to start it with the PAM000. Then you can choose the 312 because it has different case from the Logo + it has an in-house movement which I think you will appreciate.

I know what you're saying about getting the 000 now and then the 312 later but I find that the Panerai in the range I like are quite similar so I don't think I would get the 000 then the 312. Please don't take that the wrong way as I know there is a big range of these watches but the ones I like at the moment are the ones I've mentioned.

On another note how limited are the 000's with the logo? To tell you the truth I have more or less plumped for the 112 but still have a couple of days to make up my mind. I wish I could have had more time in the AD to make a decision but they only have one of each and they say that more than likely they will both be gone by the time I get to Glasgow in August.

Anway I'm still pondering and checking out as much info as I can, This site is amazing by the way! There seems to be a lot more going on here than over at PaneraiSource for some reason.

Get something that your heart tells you. You won't regret it.

As for the 000, if I'm not mistaken, Panerai produce around 1000 piece every year. For the experts, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Firtly thanks for the comments  they really helped in making my mind up!

Well i totally changed my mind at the last minute! I've decided to go for the 000 and have paid the deposit. I'll be on the mainland in 7 weeks time to pick it up and if they have a 312 which they think should be in around then I'll try it on and see what I think. The AD has told me that my deposit will be transferable if I want to change so that's that!! 

I decided to go with the 000 purely because of the logo, I know the 112 has the open caseback, the dynamics and parts of a watch are not really why I buy them, more the look of the watch and I love that logo on the face. If I try the 312 and like it I will probably go for it but at the mo I think I need to try it on and have a look before making the decision.
