Sooo... though I am not sure what is going to happen with whether the 317 will go forward in production or what its movement makeup will be, I was wondering how servicing of this piece will work if there truely is problem in manufacture of the movement. When we send the 317K in for it 5-8 year checkup will there be a problem replacing parts, will these parts not be pvd'ed? Though no one will likely be able to answer this question on the forum, just thought i would put it out there anyway. Thanks!

Wondering this as well! Would also be curious if anyone thinks the movement will be unreliable given the rumor that there was so much difficulty producing the movement to begin with.

when the 2-yr warranty is over.  I would assume that any parts that were PVD'ed would be replaced with spare PVD parts.

My guess is

For servicing, it is not done locally and is stipulated by PAM to send back to HQ for servicing.

There is no such requirement on any watch except for 190 Depth Gauge so I was informed.

done to every watch, I wish I could have gotten one of those when they were making them in PVD mvmnts. It reminds me of being somewhat of an Error baseball card.  Whether it was intentional or not only a few are like that and will, IMHO, increase the value,  monetarily or sentimentally.  But in regards to your question they all will have to be serviced on a linear timeline, what is done to one will be done to the next.  Your watch may change and morph a bit aesthetically but that is the nature of that watch, even if you did not know at the time you acquired it.  I think it is fascinating and keep us up to speed when the time comes.   A great question

 

A brand new 317K is offered to me at a price of USD30.8k ...

I was about to take the offer, but after reviewing all the Pam experts' comments and info here, my mind of getting it is shaking ..
1) 317 is still going to be continued in production ... ie, it will be more than "500" of 317 down on the road ...
2) PVD movement is rare but doubts in servicing as per this thread ...

assuming the retail price of 317 is about 25k, I am paying more than 20% as a premium in getting this K series ...
try to analyze this pricing with 292J .... assuming 292K market price is about 7.5k, and 292J is about 12.8k ... the premium for having the "pig" on the dial is close to 70% (a lot right?!?), comparing this 70% premium with the 20% premium on 317, sounds like the 20% one is pretty fair .... having said that, I guess no one here knows if there will be a 317L or 317M, would there be any "differences" on the dial that could allow one to identify the L or M with the superior K, ie if there are NO DIFFERENCE on the dial between K (PVD movement) and the other new series (non PVD movement), the 20% premium wouldn't be shown on the dial whereas the 70% premium on 292J is!! Of course, one could argue that the 20% premium is worth every single dollars because of the PVD movement!!

Please advice if the 20% premium does worth its value .... plzzzz

That's too much premium. You can probably get one for $28k BNIB right now, which is pretty close to retail after tax depending on your state and local tax rates ($25.6k retail plus 9.375% tax). Guys are listing it at $30k, but none are trading at that level. As I mentioned in my 317 review thread, I was able to easily get one from the NY boutique and I believe they may get a few more before the final run is over.

The "official" word is that there will be no more PVD movements. I feel that premiums may go up once this becomes more certain, but you still never know if this will remain the case or not. The annoying part is you rarely get to see the beautiful movement.

really appreciated that .... my problem is I currently reside in Hong Kong right now, where I am not familiar with the boutique there .... and I pretty much could make a wide guess that their waiting list for 317 would be unimaginably long!!

my wish and expectation is if PAM 317:
- is only made for 500 for the K year and none after ... paying 3k more (USD 31k in total) for a brand new one is not a bad deal (all because of the PVD movement!!).
- is going to continue for production for the years coming .... paying 28k is a maximum (even the rest of the production is not a PVD movement)!!

honestly, I had 3 friends of mine who acquired the 317 within the last 2 weeks all at list. Many got called from Boutique.

At second hand dealers, there are 5 of them flowing around and they wouldn't even take any trade in... too many dead stocks unfortunately. The watch is not cheap FWIW (personally...I own one as well) and no one knows how it will fare in the future but even dealers are scratching their heads. The falling Euros even after price adjustments make for a lot of cheap watches and many dealers would sell them to you 200K for sure. They took a few back for 190K and they are thinking of ridding them 210K. Honestly, pm me if you need help I can point you out to right direction but it's not rare anymore by last year's standard when dealers didn't have more than 1.
