Ciao Paneristis!
I trust each one of you is having a great start to the weekend!
As i pointed out a while back ago, I 1st got informed through the Tokyo boutique of the minor changes that will be done to the PAM 341, namely the crystal being changed from sapphire to a plexy.
Well, this change has finally been updated on the product page on panerai.com m
If you were to visit the page right now, you will see that the crystal is Plexiglass (sic), and the water resistance has been much reduced to a puny 30 metres, just like the California.
Well, although the watch appears to be the toughest of all Pannies, but sadly now it has only a depth rating which is considered very low especially for a Pam.
Nevertheless, I am still looking forward to getting my piece, and btw the delivery date has been tentatively fixed for November 2009, probably just in time for Christmas.
Let's hope that Santa visits early this year....
Ciao!
Stephen
WR of only 30 meters now. Wonder if it these changes will impact sales.

I don't think the change will affect sales much, especially when it's hard core die hard Paneristis we are talking about!
Such as myself, this piece is still as good as ever!
And i do intend to wear it!
Stephen
I already have a 26mm strap ready for it, and i'll probably try it once only with the original at the boutique, and then have the technician there change it for me before i even leave the store, therefore the length is no problem for me.
As for the size, i'V loved it ever since it was announced, not a problem for me. And since you put it that I am slim, even all the better because as I'v said before when i was on Japanese TV once for watches, I love my watches BIG AND HEAVY!
Cheers
Stephen
But a piece to own, for the rest of us who are unfortunate enough to own the actual 2/56!
Stephen
i had preferred they left it with the crystal and 100m rating !!
first 300 now 500, then this ?? next will be they make it in 47 mm
you beat me with a few minutes but our thoughts are the same
LOL
LoL then it'll be mon ami Nico's dream!
Cheers
Stephen
this is bad !
like plexi or not, but it is crap which scratches way to easy.
A sapphire is a lot more expensive than a 50 cent plexi
what's the next thing they'll say ? Oh, we planned to make 300 of them, now we're at 500 but it could be 1000 ??
This watch looks cool but is ridiculously OVERPRICED !
I hate it too that it scratches easily, but well guess thats why my holy grail ref. 2533 has this superb big smash to it's crystal!
Least according to figures/speculations here:
there's less of a chance that they will do an OOR or another similar series afterwards...
I was hoping t see some golden hands instead of those we see on the Proto, but sadly it won't happen.
The plexy is a good thing, but once agin, I hope that the WR won't go down too much...
Any info about that?
Best, and thanks for the info, my friend.
Nicolas
Right now, we can't say that OP won't make any more changes, they still might, after all they really understand the collector's market.
regarding the WR, as i mentioned above, it is now at a horrendous 30 metres ONLY!
Cheers and have a great weekend!
A bientot!
Stephen
Wow, that's enough, don't you thnik?
Seriously, I doubt that anyone here will wear sucha watch, and dive with...
So, the Limited Water Resistance is maybe not that important, after all...
Best,
Nicolas
And i personally don't have much of a problem with it.
I just probably got influenced from those guys here who complained much about the 249 last time!
LoL!
Stephen
What was WR of the original watch?
I definitely like the idea of plexiglass in a hommage piece. (I do hope they get rid of the 'pig' engraving on the back...Egyptian Maiales, so much for "history")
To me, this means the watch case hasn't been designed to properly use Plexiglass. It's not at all difficult to get excellent WR from plexi, so what have OP neglected to do? Have they just substituted the sapphire with plexiglass with no further changes?
But is said to be no less than 100m.
You are right that it isnt difficult to achieve greater depths with a plexy, and it is probably the case as you mentioned, that OP just switched the crystal without any modifications.
They did the same with their California dial, PAM 249 as well.
Cheers

for sure PANERAI has his forever group of enthusiasts, but at ø60mm it is going to be hard wearing for close to most of us.
It seems that most people who are considering this historical piece have already found a re-use for it: desk, wall, framing it and whatever else but wearing it.
Personally I would have preferred a real new wall clock in homage of the 2/56; not housing the quartz movement housed in the Luminor wall clock ... but housing a true mechanical 8 or more days…cool no?
This keeping those 2/56 pieces of the past a forever dream belonging Panerai's Patrimony which is this particular case may have been a better option?
As for the change from sapphire to plexy, I do not understand why it affects the depth ability of this piece. Other watches fitted with 4-5mm Plexiglas, mechanically mounted, can reach depth of 1000 meters and more.
Just my needle in a haystack
About the depth ratings, i am not sure why that OP always have a low WR when they have a Plexy, as our friend BDLJ mentions above, it is probably due to the fact that they simply switch the crystal, without any added enhancements.
Well, i'm for one who has already fixed on this piece, and will be wearing it! Don't see whats the problem with wearing it in the 1st place.
Your idea of the wall clock is very cool my friend, maybe OP might consider it in the future!
Cheers
Stephen
and if you can wear it know that I respect your liking and I am truly happy for you.
I have had a few of the vintage 2/56, of course I could wrist the 2/56, I just could not see my wrist anymore... as if I wristed my knee cap. To me ø47mm seems to be the maximum I can bear. I let go of my T3 because it too was just over my tolerance. I am by far the smallest or the biggest, still I find a ø60mm to be something huge to walk down town with.
However, I am sure that that PAM 341 will easily compliment anyone’s collection or even be a perfect watch for some of those real big guys.
It sure is a true hommage to the past, something that not many makers do nowadays, with regards to the size.
I am looking forward very much to receiving mine!
A bientot
Stephen
This is supposed to be a diving watch and i guess a kind of reproduction of the old model, the 30m i really do not understand.
Another piece to grabb collectors money! (including mine)
Alepos
But we 2 are still gonna grab the 1st pieces yaw!!
How have you been buddy?
Cheers
Stephen
no matter WR change or crystal change to plexi.
