is there any way to find out which models were made with sandwich dials. it is hard to tell from pictures. are the sandwich dials considered more collectable

if you don't know the models in hand because if you go to Panerai's website, it doesn't even mention sandwich dial under the "Specifications" sections for the watches.  So unfortnately, the only way is to scrutinize pictures you see.

And in general, sandwich dials have no bearing on whether or not a watch is more collectible.

Painted dial is so hard & slow to make & very prone to rejects due to over-spilt defect.

just check the image-sections of the big search eningines to get multiple pictures of each model and study them. I like the L-dial as well, but in most instances, a sandwich dial is nicer.

I prefer the sandwich dial ... the cut out and dual layers give nice depth perspective to the dial face!
