Why is it that most Panerai collectors prefer those historical pieces ? The Holy Grail watches are for sure the 21 and 203 but since those 2 are out of reach for 99.9% of us. Good we have some other interesting pieces. I think about the 127 and 217, definitely sought after watches. More recent pieces like the 249 and 232 will imo complete the list of sought after historical post Vendôme pieces.
Isn't it strange that complicated panerai's are not that succesfull ? I have the feeling that most enthusiast will prefer a simple watch like a 111 instead of a GMT, Chrono, Chrono rattrapante...
A few weeks ago I saw the Radiomir foudroyante at a dealer. This watch looked very nice and is limited to 300 pce but for some reason they are NOT sought after (it was in the dealers window for weeks and I think it's still there) even when this great watch is a 300 pce LE.
Other examples are the AMG chronographs, the tantalium pieces, the Arktos, Regatta, zerograph, the 163 radiomir with it's wonderfull valjoux 234 cal. They are sold out today but you can find them on the secondhand market for cheap prices. Anyway, not way above list like the 127, 217, 249
For some reason a Panerai needs to be 'simple' while others like Patek only prefer the complicated pieces. Anybody knows why ??

not this fancy complicated / Supercomplicated
watch but ruged big if I may say masculine watch ....
and things that fit PP, AP or VC
sure thing don't fit PAM. This are two worlds sport, utility, work, everyday=PAM
As always when you find your niche stick to it don't try to invent hot water ....
In short all Panerai lovers ask same thing from Panerais and this si sure not moon phase perpetual calendar
whith minute repeater and turbillon ..... if you wanna something more than hour minute and maybe second hand
you are not PAM nut LOL
Just my 2 HRK
Regards
Just curious. I had to call about 100 ADs to get one.

where it's trying to climb up the horological ladder by introducing in-house movements and even a tourbillon! Once Panerai has established itself as a contender in the world of high horology, then we should see more demand for underappreciated pieces such as the Zerograph, PAM163, etc. IMO.
Panerai's initial target group consisted of watch enthusiasts who wanted a rugged sporty masculine watch who really didn't care what was inside the watch IMO. These people mostly paid attention to the physical appearance of the watch.
Now it's expanding its target group to incorporate more of the watch fanatics who care about what's inside the watch, so I guess I would say these people care more about the personality of the watch (personality as in the movement inside cause I wanted to use the physical/personality comparison for people
).
This transition phase also explains why PuristSPro finally opened up a Panerai forum here for the PuristS community.
Cheers,

127/217/232/249/ even the 111, OOO, and all the pre v are historical pieces!!!
Paneristi, I mean the true ones, will always prefer watches that repsect the roots and the philosophy, not to say the History of the brand...
Panerai has never been a manufacture, but a "emboiteur", and a nice one...
They know how to put a movement in a case, and that THAT their history, with special specifications, that made and make these watches very good.
Complications are, for panerai, ...futility...And no sense...Till they will produce a new case to house these complicated movements...
A tourbi in a military watch????
Why not an alcoholic behind a bar??? LOL
Seriously, Historic watches are THE panerais, that'all that matters.
For the complication,s, you have other nice brands like PP, JLC, VC, and so on...
Just my 2 Asi's Sheckels! LOL
Best.
