Officine Panerai

Trying to decide if I should buy a the PAM 289 - the rose gold 1950's with the P2002 movement. I have several watches and trade off periodically; however, I wear my Panerai Daylight most of the time and occasionally a stainless Rolex Daytona. I have never owned a gold watch. Wondering how other people and Panerai collectors in particular view this. I like the Luminor case rather than the Radiomir. it seems sportier and a little understated on the dark brown croc strap. I like the GMT complication - it is useful as i travel a fair amount. What are your opinions? Would you buy a gold watch and if so, which one?

If I were to buy a gold Panerai with a P.200x movement, I would probably buy the radiomir version of the PAM289 which is the PAM235 pictured below.  For some reason, I think the GMT complication looks better in a radiomir case than the luminor case, even though I like the luminor case better.

For the record, I was always of the opinion that the yellow gold or pink gold didn't quite fit the overall theme of Panerai and I've been resisting the idea of Panerai bling for a long time, until the 289.    I liked it for a few reason:

-The only pink gold panerai w/ brown dial

-While the 233 is nice with in house 8 day movement, it doesn't really stand out from the huge ranges of luminor that Panerai is offering.  But we certainly don't see a pink gold luminor often do we?

-This time they really did it right.  I feel that the previous models of pink gold panerai still turns out a bit yellowish.  The 289 is very warm, at least to me.  Might have something to do with the brown dial and matching strap.   The brushed finish was a perfect touch.  Did I mention that I love that brown dial?

Well, I think your scans tell us how great does the watch looks and the owner will be so proud to own the 1950-luminor case which I think is one of the best case that Panerai has ever made. I also consider the 140 for gold material comparison. It does look really great with the unique dial. However, the 44mm will not be your choice but if you would take a close look at it, you will see why I love the 140.

By the way, depite the luminor case look more sport but I do prefer Radiomir case especially if it comes in pink gold or rose gold...but only my personal preference.

And Ryan, regarding you question about the gold watch....If I would buy one, the ROO-RG will be my first choice to pick. It's the gorgeous piece AP put in the market. (So sorry Anthony, couldn't resist this)

I have a RG ROO so I like your pick as well   Just cause I'm a co-mod here for our Panerai forum doesn't mean I don't like watches from other brands such as AP

Seriously that's bloody gorgeous!

It just came back from a repolish and brand new strap, so it feels and looks brand new again

AP rosegold is, IMO, has the best colored rose gold out there.
