Glashütte Original

A Watch which certainly deserves more " discussion time " than it gets.

First because it is a G.O. A Manufacture with a solid and serious reputation.

Then because it has great allure, aesthetically speaking, with this sober dial.

Another good reason to consider it lies in the fact that it displays the chronograph function in an original way.

A last, but no least, detail: The movement, which is nice looking!

Now, a white metal case would be a tempting, very tempting offer, I must say.

I am very fond of this model - mainly due to its untraditional layout both on dial and movement. I think I still prefer the original version although a bit less elegant than the "MkII" you show. Mostly due to the white metal case / dark dial versions (Pt/black dial and SS/grey dial) but also due to the fact that it was the first.

Thanks for bringing this interesting watch to the surface.

The cleaner, more spacious dial matches well with the rose gold case. The luminous hands are a great addition to the piece compared to its predecessor. Finally, the slightly tweaked counter scale should be a bit easier to read, especially when the elapsed time reading falls between 20 and 30 min. Without being able to make an apples-to-apples comparison (steel-to-steel), I could say conclusively whether I prefer it to the previous version.

Maybe it is too original to get a broader success?

Whuile, we, watchnuts, think that it is its originality which would justify a broader success.

. . . cal 60/61/65/90 Pano series watches were distinctive and immediately recognizable, with a strong identity as Glashütte Originals.  Here are a few images from Yong some three years ago . . .

 

. . . from which a visual comparison can be drawn.  The most visible changes are a thinner bezel on the second generation model in your images, and the absence of chapter rings in both subdials;  less obvious is a slight increase in the dimensions of the case.  The net effect is subtle, but noticeable.

I am too in love with the PML, but am very intrigued by the chrono counter, I think I need to pop into an AD to see how it works properly!!

. . . intuitive (pun intended!), and the reversed position of the start and stop pushers takes a bit of getting used to, but my take is those quirks work their way out in due course, and the end result is a perfectly functional chronograph . . . with a difference.  Like many other Glashütte Originals - the PanoMatic Chrono, the Senator Diary, the Week Calendar - there's a sense of playfulness inherent in many of their designs that serves as a humanizing touch.

Can't wait for a post from you on all the current line up for GO!!

Seems to be very much the spirit of Glashutte Original.  I'm a fan of this watch for sure.
