Long story short, she had mentioned that she wanted to buy me a nice watch as a wedding gift, but that she would like to actually make it a wedding/engagement gift so that I could enjoy it during the time in between. She had a budget in mind but was not confident enough to choose without some guidance from me. I knew that whatever she chose, I would love and keep forever...I needed something on the dressy side and a design that would stand the test of time. That eliminated sports watches and divers. I also wanted to choose something that would be a good value in the $5k budget. I went to a few ADs with her where we looked at IWC portofino, Longines, Omega, etc. At last we narrowed it down to the new IWC Portofino chrono vs the GO Senator Hand Date. I left the final decision completely up to her, and she chose the Glashutte. What really caught my eye about this watch goes back to our vacation the previous year in Las Vegas. She was being a great girlfriend as I dragged her from boutique to boutique...we were both drawn to a beautiful GO Senator Chrono XL in the window. It was the first time we had ever seen Glashutte watches in real life, and we were both very impressed with the pure beauty. However, the Chrono XL was too big for my wrist and I wasn't in the position to buy an expensive watch anytime soon. I honestly did not expect to be able to buy one for several years, so put that idea to rest. Fast forward to the engagement gift....we spotted the Senator Hand Date. It had some very similar traits as that Chrono XL from a year prior....of course it was not a chronograph, but it had 2 sub-dials, the same symmetrical layout, same colors, but it was smaller and a bit more dressy. It just happened to be the perfect blend of what I wanted. It was dressy enough for formal wear but could also fit right in with a polo shirt. For the price, I think it was a nice value as well. I think she knew it was the right one from that moment on....I left the decision to her, and a few months later the box came to our door.
I love the watch more & more as time passes and I cant wait to wear it on our wedding day.
