How to better appreciate the Senator Navigator Pilot for Rimowa, than diving in the Past of the B.UHR?

Look at thes blue hands, this thin and big Second Hand, this clean dial, all is there, as an Hommage to the B.UHR:

Take the writings off the dial of the G.O, and you will get the same watch than the Pilots got in the 40ies...

In a smaller and more wearable size...

And with a modern and very nice manufactured caliber...

i love the hands on the G O. In the IWC line, the big pilot is an icon. It has its fan club that are very faithfull to it. Lovely watch, simple, chic and sporty,... something romantic about it
In that line, i think IWC hold the top spot

I considered for a long time the IWc, for the reasons you perfectly explained.

But, in term of coherence and purity of the design, I prefer the GO, this GO.

Look at the volumes of the IWC and GO.

You will notice that the volumes of the G.O are quite reaching the perfection, while the IWC has, to me, a small inconvenient:

The size of the lugs are not well proportioned ( 22 mm , I think ), compared to the size of the case ( 46 mm ).

Therefore, I prefer the second hand of the G.O than seeing the power reserve hand on the IWC.

In my mind, the G.O is closer to the Vintage IWC or Lange than the new IWC BP.

. . . the development of the Senator Navigator line, Nicolas, although it's a bit sad that the nexus between the classic B-Uhr designs and their modern G O descendants hasn't been made more explicit. In my humble opinion, the B-Uhr designs are the most aesthetically interesting modern designs of the post art-deco period, and are true icons in the history of watchmaking . . .

At least with this G.O ( but also with the normal version of the Senator Navigator ), we have a very pure, strong, and beautiful Pilot watch.

Agree that the dial is very nice, but not a bit too spohisticated?

And this power reserve indicator..Heeeerm...lacks a bit of purity, to me...

the Steel version feels so boring and dry next to this one. I need something eye catching in a watch i guess. About the power reserve, i agree, i'd have rather seen the date at that place, and have the  "6" to keep some kind of continuation, symetrie in the dial... That watch is twickling me more n more

I like your GO Senator Navigator very much.  I am on the waiting list for its poor country cousin, the Stowa Airman Original.  IMO it's an appealing modern interpretation of the classic 1940s B-uhr from one of the original companies commissioned to make them during WWII.

It is not nearly a perfect Pilot watch, it is A perfect Pilot watch, respecting the roots of these tools, their legibility, their simplicity.

With a very nice and accurate movement, too.

about modern interpretations. there are too many B-Uhr watches around, nearly every company makes one from Stowa to GO and upwards. they look good, but i cant see myself buying one.

thought i'd throw some Laco original pics into the mix. at 55mm its impossible to wear especially with the original over jacket wrist strap on.

this was one of several pilots watches that i took to BBC TV's Antiques roadshow 3 years ago. i even got filmed for one of the main slots with the watch expert who is also a pilot, but they left me on the cutting room floor. i dont think i interview well

 

BTW Daos, i like the Stowa and its a good choice for the smaller wrist.

Nice photos. Thanks for posting. There is just eomething so classic about vintage pilot watches, or the modern GO Navigator lineup. I know it might sound cooky, but when I strap on a vintage pilot watch, I feel like I am traveling back in time, getting ready to board a old C-47 flying the Hump.

That is what make these Pilot Watches great watches, indeed!
