TimeOut

To me the best food is...

...simply prepared in order to highlight the ingredients.  If you start with pristine ingredients, you don't need to gild the lily.  I would take "peasant food" over anything fancy, seven days a week!

smile Daos

Another superb place to visit. Seems that I would need a whole year of holidays to see all [nt]

What a wonderful trip!

Didn't know that Tillamook made ice cream I thought they old made delicious cheese.  You b+w pics came out nice!

-MW

Thank you!

 By: dxboon : June 18th, 2013-23:03
While I enjoyed their cheese, I must say the Tillamook ice cream was the star of the visit.  I think the freshness of the local milk, and the local ingredients made all the difference.  Their pre-packaged 1/2 gallons at the local grocery can't compare to the ice cream at their headquarters.

Cheers,
Daos

Guess I'm going tomorrow...

 By: DRMW : June 18th, 2013-23:08
Now you got me craving for some ice cream, guess I'm going to Pavillions and getting some Tillamook ice cream!

-MW

I like the Oregon strawberry flavor.

 By: dxboon : June 18th, 2013-23:14
I sometimes buy that and the vanilla.  I'm trying not to keep ice cream at home, because it's too tempting!

Cheers,
Daos

Looks like Oregon is the hot spot . . .

. . . of the moment for Purists.  I've visited a few times to see my brother, and once to catch two Stones shows way back in '98.

Best memories?  The brew pubs with terrific fresh ales, and the purity of their tap water.  Taking a shower in Portland is almost like having a spa treatment.

Thanks so much for sharing the experience, Daos.

Best,

Art

It has a lot to offer people with Puristic tendencies...

...impeccable food, great beer; pristine natural environs, world-class fishing and outdoor sports, and lots of photo ops for everyone to give their Leicas, Canons, Nikons, etc. a workout.

My one regret was that I was not able to make a day trip to see a young watchmaker of interest to me, Keaton Myrick, at his atelier in a different part of Oregon.

Cheers,
Daos

What a great tour !

Thanks Sista ! All good excpet the lamprey ... made me all squishy.

Love the nature bits ...  how nice to be able to get away once in a while !

The pictures of the lampreys were not as gross...

 By: dxboon : June 19th, 2013-07:45
...as seeing them in person, all slithering around with their huge circular mouths.  Yucky!

I like holidays where my friends and I can tour natural wonders!

Cheers,
Daos

Great shots!

I too like to be a virtual tourist with our fellow PuristS.  I feel like I've gone on some great adventures through the pictures people have posted on TimeOut!

Cheers,
Daos

Epic Post :-)

I loved it, your pictures were sublime and I felt I was there feeling the cool breeze while hiking in God's Country, Portland is definitely on my list as must visit before kicking the bucket smile

Do you watch a show called Portlandia by the way? smile

S

I don't regularly watch it

 By: dxboon : June 19th, 2013-07:51
...but have seen bits of Portlandia, which is very humorous in how they play up stereotypes of people in Portland.  My friends and I laughed a lot about Portlandia while we were actually in Oregon.

Cheers,
Daos

Is it really the 1990s in Portland? :-)...

Glad you've watched the show, I really enjoy it myself as well smile

... and ate your wonderful food pictures! This gave me the time to enjoy the nature shots. This is such a lovely landscape there, I would like to visit the place. Have you met any "Grimm" monsters there - other than that friendly snail, I mean? My better half and I are enjoyed the "Grimm" mystery tv series, which is set in Portland. Unfortunately, they do not offer any scenery views of the town and its surroundings.

Regards,
Marcus

I love Grimm!

I watch the show every week with a group of friends.  We all watch the episodes at our separate houses, but simultaneously chat about it through the internet as we watch.  It's like having a virtual viewing party.

We didn't see any Grimm beasts (Thank goodness!), but I think the lampreys were enough grossness for me!  Yucky fish!  I think you would enjoy hiking through the scenic areas surrounding Portland.  Our cabin was located in a national forest and there were tons of hiking trails.  It's a good trip for the nature lover.

Cheers,
Daos

Great post and fond memories

Your superb post brought back many fond memories.  We travelled the same route 6 years ago, and thoroughly enjoyed Oregon.  One of our favorite places.  I know you had a fantastic trip.  Well deserved.  Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Much cheers,  Frederick

I love the...

...lushness of the Pacific Northwest.  It's so green and verdant.  Such a stark contrast to Southern California!

Fantastic!

It is amazing how in the West one can move from mountain to coast so fluidly.

Agreed! Such varied landscapes all over...

 By: dxboon : June 19th, 2013-20:52
...the west coast!  I made the same remark to a friend the other day.  Of course, every corner of the world has pockets of natural beauty!

Outstanding Daos ...

Beautiful place and very out of my usual US routes.

Congratulations,
