Who else likes vintage Omega Seamaster DeVille´s from the 60´s?
I know there are some purists around here who share my attraction for these classic vintage beauties.
Some of them even helped me in making my decision to buy this one:
One of them, our moderator Art (aka Dr. No) asked me to present this watch to the Omega forum. Well, here it is!
Some of the following pics are my own, some are from Roberto from "ilsegnotempo" from Italy who courtiously allowed me to use his photos.
This Seamaster DeVille dates from 1964 and features a monocoque pink gold case containing an automatic movement (Art thought it to be most likely a cal. 560). As it is obviously much more difficult to open this watch I cannot present any pics of the movement which I hope is in the same magnificent condition as the rest of the watch. Some more photos:

An extra nice treat: original box, papers and a letter from Omega to the first proprietor

Close-up of the date window. Can you spot the Omega logo on the crystal?
The watch came with a vintage black lizard leather strap and a plated pin buckle, according to Graham´s opinion not from 1964, but from the later Cosmic range. Probably the owner changed strap and buckle a few years after the purchase?
The spring bars with a little pin to remove them - I did not know this was such an old technology! A bit difficult though to handle if you have no specially designed strap

Finally some wrist shots to illustrate what I like about these vintage Omegas: their perfect and decent fit on my wrist!

Yes, it's a fine example...
of a monocoque Omega and whilst I like the looks, I have always avoided them for the simple reason that without the special tool, it is not possible to get to the movement.

. . . on this latest acquisition, anaesdoc - it simply exudes 'Omega-ness'. You were most fortunate to find one in such good condition with impeccable provenance.

After the trouble I had with a dubious Omega Chronometer some time ago I am really happy to have found this example of "impeccable provenance" as you put it very well.
The 2013 Seamaster looks very nice and not as big as usual. Is it true or just an illusion? I am eager to learn more and would be too happy if Omega should go back to its classic roots.

Good eye! Yes, the model pictured . . .
. . . has a 41.5 mm case compared to the 43 mm case of the one I reviewed a few years ago, and Omega has also introduced an AT annual calendar in a 38.5 case size.
A visual scan of the two . . .
. . . leaves me to believe they're of identical heights, so the aspect ratio will be somewhat 'thicker' with the smaller case. I'll have a wrist shot or two posted next week.

Wish I had the box and papers for mine...you certainly are lucky.
I still haven't had a chance to have mine opened up either. Need to find a watchmaker with the right tool to satisfy my curiosity about the movement. But it does keep time within about five seconds a day, so I can't complain.

as your watch keeps excellent so does mine. No urgent need to have it opened.

that is a lovely seamaster deville, the year is perfect as well :)
i have 2 from 1964. a steel cased 560 calibre and the mythical 560 calibre 'kleerback'.
if you ever tire of this beauty please give me first refusal.

you may find the movement is a 562.
the 560's were mainly made for the US importer Norman Morris and is a 562 with 17 jewels instead of 24 that the 562 has. all due to the US import restrictions and charges for 'jewels'.
most swiss made models have the 562, whilst the US models have the 560.
having said that, my steel cased swiss made model has a 560 in it so nothing is set in stone.
i would be very interested to know what actually is inside it as it would help us know more about the usage of the 3000 560 calibres made. a very small number for so many models.

Hello Graham,
according to your information the cal. 562 is most probable as the watch was sold in Italy. Art presumed a cal. 560, but he will mainly see vintage Omegas that were sold in the US.
I will remember you if I should get a sight of the movement or get bored!
