Hello Omega fans!

Don’t know if you noticed…

Normally, I am that kind of guy that likes to find the documents of a watch first, study the documents and maybe, eventually, go for the watch.

If I find that I have enough information!

Well, when it comes to the “Holy Trinity of Omega”, this was proven to be very difficult.

Yes, there are several books to read, friends to ask…

But I prefer to do my homework with original documents!

Guess many of you have read the book – “Omega, a journey through time”.

In the book I found this one!

But also this ad - on page 322 you find the classic ad: the three sister creation of 1957.

 

According to the book the ad is from 1958…  in French...

For us who doesn’t read French this is a problem.

Since I already made two steps into the Omega world I thought I better start an Omega section in my library…

I found an NOS 2003 Railmaster in 38 mm size on bracelet sitting sadly in a corner of my AD's show window. But with the Basel show starting tomorrow I figure I can always go back and get it if there is nothing I like at Basel this year. I know you are a strictly vintage person but would you advise for or against this 2003 Railmaster? I have no real need for the watch. I just felt like making this trinity complete even with contemporary descendants not the real deal.

The 2003 Railmaster is a very beautiful watch.

If you like it, you should go for it!

I think it would eb difficult to find a NOS 2003 while any of the new comming this year will;

1) Not be available yet.

2) Once Omega start to ship the new watches, they will be available for some time.

So if possible you can always pcik a second watch later this or next year..!

When itcomes to original/tribute - you know I love to play both hands...

Thank you for your view on this matter. The lady is agreeable with the already ordered Grande Reverso Calendar so far. Let me try and spring this idea of a Railmaster on her and see how she reacts!

I just felt like adding an Omega to my collection while waiting. So it's going to be either this Railmaster or the Speedmaster Moonphase I once owned.

i can highly recommend it as a superb watch, but one other thing to think about is that they are or already have ceased production of the railmaster automatic. hopefully they'll re introduce one with the 8500 calibre, but who knows. get it while you can.

...a newer Railmaster with Caliber 8500, I will still be partial for the 2003 version as I am interested in just the design. The movement I don't care much about and I already have the 8500 in my Ploprof so that base is covered. The NOS 2003 piece I found is 39 mm. and fits my wrist perfectly. Thanks again for the advice. I will let you know in a couple of weeks how this turns out.

But these documents are a feast for the eyes, my friend.

As for the watch which is missing, that raises a question:

Which Speedmaster will you hunt? A CK 2915, or a very nice 2998?

You mentioning the Holy Trinity and already owing 2 of them, obviously means you're brewing something

Do not forget the little sister in the shape of the Ranchero, that both from a stylistic and time perspective almost beloong to that fabulous series...

I do not have much more to add in term of original iconography.
I own the Omega Saga from Marco Richon, which gives a rich insight on the genealogy and parentage of all these watches (sadly for most it is in French) and then there is quite a lot of very good illustrated examples in Omega Sportswatches, a book that mainly focuses on well, the Speedmaster, the Seamaster, the Railmaster and the Speedmaster. These is quite a lot of pictures of early versions. You probably know or own that book already, I presume. If not, I'd say it is a must have.
