Omega

Always wanted this one and finally decided to get one.  Have to say, the watch is a real tour-de-force.  It is a great modern interpretation of an all time classic and I have to say, pictures don't quite do it justice. Many of you would undoubtedly pick the PO chronograph over this one but after studying both closely in pictures and in person, reading all the available material on the web, it was an easy decision for me to go with this one.  Without further ado, the Speedmaster Cal. 9300:

The good thing in the world is that there are choices out there for everyone of us. Those who choose Omega at all is a minority! For the same money I believe the majority of people would just go and buy Rolex for various reasons.

Congratulations on acquiring this new Speedy. It is very clear from your photograph that the shafts for the pushers are solid and thicker than the regular Moonwatch. I think this partly explains the 100m water resistance over the 50m rating of regular Moonwatch.

When you posted about your PO cal. 9300 chronograph I admit it made me consider that watch very strongly but decided to go with the speedmaster.  You won't go wrong with either watch though and I could easily see why you and others went with that choice.  A rising tide as they say lifts all ships and I believe that is true of the recent omega releases - the 9300 chronograph movement is a winner and IMHO an automatic movement deserving to follow in the path set by the 321/861 movements.

We should see in a few years time how robust and proven this movement can be. All the best to Omega and us the early buyers!

I'm not a great fan of modern watches but that looks just great - maybe it is the vintage styling that does it.

I would expect that it is a great timekeeper but I'd love to know how these Co-Ax movements fare as far as reliability is concerned

its one of the few new omegas that i really like. something to do with the hour/minute subdial which keeps the dial less cluttered. as Hans has said, a modern watch with DNA of a classic piece.

This one just entered on my long "wish list".

The points that attracts me more about this watch are:

a) Case design, even at 44.25 mm case, fits very well on my tiny wrist.
b) The great use of the two registers layout, with a running seconds.
c) The movement, that I consider one of the few true recent innovation.

My only minor complain is the date, unnecessary IMHO, but I can live with that.

Before I got this watch, I've read some of the critiques - not faithful to the 3 dial layout of the original moonwatch, the subdials too small and too far apart from the center, the hands on the hour and minute totalizer too small and hard to read, the watch is too tall, etc.  All I can say is that in the metal, at least to my mind, all these concerns vanished.  It looks just right to me and I think omega did a fine job on the watch - a piece clearly deserving to be called a speedmaster.

and am wearing this as I type this.  Wears great on the wrist - the height isn't a problem under my dress shirts - the way the sapphire caseback is designed helps here.
