...about that 6-digit case serial number. Franco's 8-digit number of around 11 million would be consistent with an early 1950's 18K gold case.
That number looks more like a later model case reference number (i.e. 132.016), but I can't find that number listed on the Omega Vintage Database. Even if I did find it, I highly doubt it would be consistent with a square Omega Cosmic.
Without pictures of the rest of the watch, I would be hesistant to say any more,

Hi Gator,
IMO you may have misread the numbers... 3944 is the ref#, not the 6 digit number...
The 6 digit number is the case serial#
Usually these numbers are 8 digit but it is not uncommon to find original pieces with 6 digit serial numbers, especially in gold cases!
I have seen several of them over the years, and I must go through my collection - if I recall correctly I have a Conny with a 6 digit case serial#...
I do not know the reason why they also used these shorter numbers though.
Kind regards
Erich
... on Constellation cases also:
However, I would advise gold testing on that particular case. Dial looks OK to me. Movement is probably OK as well, but the picture is not very good. If the case checks out as solid 18K, then I'd say go for it.
Hope this helps,
