Girard Perregaux

Today in the morning, GP's marvellous collection, located in an old mansion on the hills overlooking La-Chaux-de-Fonds, was stolen by at least three men. Apparently, the complete collection is lost. For those who can read German, here is a first report:

Terrible news indeed; a lot of these watches are unique, so if they are lost it´s a real loss of history.

Are the thieves totally clueless or were they "put up to it" by a villainous private collector?  Surely they must know the pieces cannot be easily sold off.  I guess no different then a fine art heist I suppose. A Sad day for horology and GP indeed.

Please let us know anything we can do to help the situation, knowing we will all put out the word and be on guard the minute we spot one of these watches on the web or in some far corner of the world. This is not only a crime against GP but against History and all generations to come, I personally am shocked and sickened by such an act.

It is a real loss; in a monetarian aspect for sure, but after all the Museum Collection represents the pedigree and history of the brand.
It took GP decades to acquire all these and the watches, of which many are unique and outstanding achievements in watchmaking. It´s truly a loss for the watch world.

I´m sure your kind words are appreciated in La Chaux-De-Fonds!

I can not fully express my shock and anger..it's as if a Renoir has been stolen from the collective. The culprits appeared to have been in their mid twenties, wore red and black, ported glasses (dark?) and spoke French...could these really be personal collectors capable of appreciating the intrinsic value of what they stole?........

I am sure sooner or later police will catch these people. I wish them all the bad luck.

It is a sad fact that most of the marvelous pieces stolen in such incidents do not reappear, even if they were unique pieces, that could not be offered on the market without a trace. This indicates that the thieves already had their buyers, even before they committed the crime. Apparently, they are following a "shopping list" to meet their "orders".

This is indeed very sad.

All those pieces are priceless.  I really hope they are safe and can be recovered.  What a shameful cowardly act that was!!! My heart goes to all GP and JR staff, the Macaluso family and GP fans around the world.  Your spirits never dies.

What a terrible news....! I do hope, as we all do, that the collection will be discovered.

My thoughts are with GP. I will keep both eyes open.

A plague upon all your households. You are filth. Less than human.

The joy you feel now will soon pall, and be replaced all too quickly by the overwhelming loss of your own dignity. The curse now invoked, will never end while you retain these treasures, which belong to all of us.

You will die poor in spirit, you will never be recognised, you will always live in fear of those who hunt you. Simply give the pieces back. At least then you can say you did one good thing in your lives.

In the meantime: for all our sakes, at least care for these works of art. They are imbued with more humanity than you will ever possess.

But how on earth could that happen? I mean, as Peter outlines, itr's the Brand hertitage!?!
It surely must be protected by Alarm, etc. etc.
If not - this would be shocking as well!

I hope they reappear soon, for us, for the history of the time pieces, for culture, but of course - especially for GP!!!
