Hello all,
I will go slightly off topic, even though this is an AP Forum. In my quest for a balanced watch collection, I also wanted a tool watch, an everyday watch that I would feel comfortable with in rougher surroundings... I searched many brands, but found Rolex to be the one for me, and entered the world of modern rolexes with a 16610LV. Which has now led me on the quest for a vintage rolex in the future..
SO to finish off, I wanted just to talk about the watches that are on my list going forward.... the 'grail list' : )
I have been a very long time lurker here, have spend months and years trawling through the depth of information. I have always been meaning to post pictures etc, but.... well I have been lazy! Well, I finally wiped the dust of the camera, and tried to be slightly artistic. I hope the photos come out ok.....
A little bit about myself.... I have had a passion for watches for around 10years, my first purchase was a TAG Link chronograph, followed by an IWC Portuguese Chrono and a PAM 279. But as one grows, so tastes change, and I decided to move on from the above watches. I have had a growing love over the last 2 years for the Royal Oak design, and decided to purchase a Royal Oak Chrono Newman dial. I loved the sportiness and feel of it, what a slick presence it has. I have managed to switch it from a bracelet to a strap, but I actually think I prefer it with the bracelet, the way steel sports watches should be. But here are some attempted arty photos!

2. JLC Duometre Quantieme Lunaire
3. IWC Portuguese Perp Calendar
4. Rolex 1680 Red Sub
There are, of course, many many other watches on my grail list, but these are the ones that have stood the test of time by consistently being in my dream watch lists.

The one AP that still really sings to me is the Diver, the previous one. I like the Forged Carbon look on the new one, but will wait to see it in the flesh, am unsure about the dial.
I do love all of the skeletonised ROs though, beautifully designed watches

A high percentage of your posts are responsible for driving my watch passion. A lot of the watches on my grail list you have covered in detail, so take full credit/blame hahahaha

Very nice pieces there Imran, actually I was intrigued by the scene behind your watch in the first pic, is that a Mughal procession?
The Lange Zeitwerk in White Gold and Black Dial is fantastic and so is the Rolex Red Sub, however Vintage Rolex collecting is not for the faint of heart or those short of time, its quite easy to make mistakes with the small nuances and details and loose a bundle in the process, I'd rather buy from a well known dealer and there are quite a few who stand behind what they sell.

Yes you're right, it is a Mughal procession, its an ornamental box made with the design painted all the way around.
I have been doing a wealth of reading into vintage rolexes, thanks to many great posts here, and living in Hong Kong there are quite a few dealers with good reps, so help is at hand!
But the list of watches is long, and will take time, will probably change again, but that's fine. Thats part of the fun!
Lucky You! Hong Kong is great for watch shopping...
there are a number of great dealers there with a fantastic selection and the collectors there are passionate and knowledgeable, how has your experience been?

It doesn't get better as far as watches go
You have every single brand represented here, the large, the small.... watching spotting is an hourly semi hourly every minute thing! And as I am starting to explore the vast world of vintages, I discover more dealers and great displays... I can go and see a display of fine vintages watches in any 5 minute direction from my home! Aaah, what to do if I ever leave here!

Do you still have your ROC racer? when I saw your pics of that, it really pushed me in the direction of this ROC, so I thank you!! I now have the brown croc, rubber strap, and original bracelet... but would love to find a strap like yours one day!!
Indeed, we all have those lists...
And that is what separates those Grails. I myself hope to someday own one of the complicated Millenary pieces, such as the Deadbeat Seconds.
A good friend is enjoying the ROC Racer presently. It is such a spectacular dial and can pair with many AP straps. I first tried the original Tour Auto ROC strap, which was like the ROC Racer but all black. Still looked outstanding with the perforated calf. I flirted with the idea of white stitching once as well, but never tried it.

Ha, in my Grail List 2... there are many!
But if I included every watch I wanted in the list - it would be 20-40 deep!! I tried to keep it down to watches I have seen and touched in the flesh, and have sung to me ever since that day. The RG Nautlilus, the beautiful World timer are on the second list, I just haven't been able to hold them and try them on at all... and I pray that day doesn't come too soon, otherwise I am in a world of trouble
Then there are the new Glashutte Original selection, I am a huge fan of the Senator Navigator range, as well as the new Pano line up from Basel this year.....

Great introductory post
I think you made an excellent choice with the AP.. and well the strap is to die for in equal measures to the watch, both together look fantastic.
In regards to the Rolex I like your choice I went for "the standard" black on black for my everyday (16610 engraved rehaut but not LV) and have now put it on a Nato strap.
All the best on your grail hunt, sadly there are too many watches that I love to ever be truly satisfied
