Audemars Piguet

After several weeks of wearing my new Daytona in platinum almost continuously (although I occasionally wore my Panerai 721), it's nice to switch things up again.

And I'm really happy to feel my AP black ceramic on my wrist again.

I'd like to keep it that way, by the way. (Nico has already advocated it): I call it "watch stability" ☺️ You learn to appreciate your watch better, and the joy increases when you wear it for a longer period of time and don't constantly change it.

There's a special feel of cool ceramic on the wrist, especially in the summer. This will probably be on my wrist for an upcoming vacation and looking forward to being your wrist brother!

My dear friend, I'm completely lost in this passion. Trapped!!

The terrible and beautiful thing at the same time: it never ends.

My esteemed AD has put the new Ulysse Nardin Diver Air up for me to inspect tomorrow. He naturally hopes that I'll buy this watch.

I've told myself to examine it and only make the purchase if I'm 100% convinced and in love.

I hope I can remain steadfast and sensible. Because: I'd actually like to go on a watch diet. But flesh and willpower are weak…

…for me I tend to get these extended spells on the wrist when traveling.  When there is the temptation of other watches within relatively easy reach I usually switch up quite regularly.  

Bringing two watches with me on vacation this time was actually an exception. I usually only take one. It's easier, more relaxed, and also more comfortable when traveling. The question is always WHICH watch should I take? That's why I generally like to buy watches that are all-rounders.

I'm definitely a practitioner on watch stability, I always wear my watches for a few days before switching, normally several weeks even.

I've been wearing the same watch for the last couple of weeks, looking forward to getting back home tonight and strapping on another one 😉

I tried the titanium version a couple of months ago and it was really nice, not as big as I was expecting.

The image of ceramic is, of course, all about scratch resistance. But I’m not entirely sure how robust this watch really is.

1. Shortly after the purchase, I had an issue with the chronograph, which was wonderfully resolved by AP. During the repair, they informed me that one of the bracelet links had broken inside. I have no idea how that could have happened. The watch was brand new. AP was very kind and generous and changed the whole bracelet. But still…

2. A few weeks ago, I accidentally brushed the underside of the bracelet against a metal edge.
I wasn’t shocked and almost smiled. „No problem, it’s ceramic“.
At first glance, nothing was visible even in bright daylight.
In normal daylight, you don’t see anything.

But … under intense sunlight, there’s a small, faint mark - not a scratch (you don’t feel anything with your finger), but a delicate 3mm line that’s still black, yet slightly lighter than the surrounding surface.

Every normal person (which I obviously am not 😎) would say: “Nothing happened.”
Any steel watch would’ve shown a clearly visible scratch.

But to claim that AP’s ceramic doesn’t show any marks at all (0%) — that’s not entirely true either.

You really cannot appreciate the finer details when until you really get to know a piece.  And IMO, you can't do that rotating every day.
