Jaeger Lecoultre hunter case backs.

In the late 90ies, early 2000's, some Jaeger Lecoultre had hunter case backs, such as this one, on Sandgroper White Gold Master Perpetual Calendar:

Some of us prefer solid case backs, when there is not much to see, others favour see through case back.

The hunter case back conciliates everybody, since you have the choice between the two.

Moreover, a hunter case back strengthens the relation between the Watch and its owner, their intimity, somehow.

This is something I would like to see coming back, in the current collection.

I am particularly enamoured of the ones with a well-hidden hinge - like the new PP 5227.  The one you've pictured, too, looks pretty discreet.

I was thinking the same thing...  it just looks like an 889/2 (which it is)...and that's not a bad thing!  But it's not particularly exciting either.

So it crosses my mind that perhaps hunter backs really should be reserved for movements that warrant the extra step of opening up the caseback...a common-or-garden movement could be a bit of a let-down...no?

Yes definitely - more hunter case backs - also I've said before I miss the gold medallions the Master control series had before the introduction of crystal backs on almost everything.

I have seen the first hunter caseback from Jlc at a white gold older Master Moon.

The watch was heavy and the quality of the caseback was impressive. As far as I remember, the watch was limited, but at least numbered..
