Mehltretter's dial and Christian's dial as well show: CHRONOMETRE with underline AUTOMATIC. So how can you dare to call some reference 24000 'Master Mariner' while -again- same reference, same movement same anything, except the described above makes them a non 'Master Mariner'. Huh?

No Master Mariner print on any dial for the 24000 so far, besides the 'product line' aka 'type class' is Master Mariner as we can see in numerous catalog page scans.

Now, it has been said and written that some were MM.

Is this due to the fact that some other watches were not mentionning MM on their dial and still are, I don't know.

I never saw a MM 24000 which doesn't mean that I saw all and that I can deny the fact that they exist.

That is all... But if you have some consistent informations on that matter, you are more than welcome to post them!

Yet you consider, while before it was like a fact. Thats how false legends are born. You give no proof or even a hint since you can't, is this the way serious reporting goes, or is it just plain support marketing for an upcoming product?

I doubt that JLC will go for a COSC-rated watch for the tercentenary. But the rumours about an all new evaluation and certification of chronometric accuracy could make sense with respect to that date.

Thank you for posting the first two pages of the Loseblattkatalog. I did not know them until now. Concerning the dispute with Nicolas the lawyer I do hope that you read the footnote on the "how to use"-page. ;-)

To my eyes, it seems that there is an error on page 91, when describing the picture of the caliber P 478/BWSbr.....the caption says Caliber P 78/BWSbr.... so, the P 478 becomes the P 78??!!!! A discrepancy of 400!!!!LOL!!! Sincerely, does it matter??

… mark a mistake of yours: you obviously confused the number of a caliber with the movement number! The number of a caliber is nothing but the name of a caliber, used to distinguish different calibers - whereas the movement number is the production number of the very movement it is engraved on. Both must not be mixed up!

The discussion itself was and still is about why some 24000-42s have CHRONOMETRE printed on their dials and others do not. Nicolas came up with a theory of what could be the reason, which looked good prima facie. But after an argumentative discourse – that is what this forum is for, isn’t it - it is now prevailing opinion that the theory is flawed.

The riddle of the different dials itself thereby still remains unsolved. So you are welcome to contribute to the unravelling of that mystery by an array of reasons. Or – as Locke would have put it:

"Reason is the candle of the Lord in men’s minds – the light by which we judge.”

Congratulations Nicolas,

Your essay is terrific and will catch and enthusiast all JLC chronometry watches fans for Long.

You know that it is also my favourite subject, although I'm far from your knowledge and experience. I'm just glad (and thankful) to already hold two of those pieces, and my favourite ones. I have a few to get someday, especially a mk11, but I'm already more than happy with the two I have (and I have only two wrists).

Chronometry is the essence of watchmaking, far above complications. I too hope to see more focus from brands and especially JLC on that field. Wait and see.
