An excellent Watch which was born at a time when this complication was not that common., if we can consider that this complication is common, nowadays.
I never heard complains about that Watch.
It is accurate and reliable.
The biggest difference between the current model and the former is the size, of course, and the more modern design of the dial.
Choosing between the former and the current is a matter of taste.
You won't go wrong with the one or the other.

The person had only checked if the watch was running fine.... and it was. He never saw that Ketchum was replaced from Denver and printed in blue, unlike all the other cities printed in black!...to my great joy as it makes this watch very unique adding some poetry and history to it.

Master Geographic
15 years ago when I had no idea that other brands existed outside of Rolex, the JLC Master Geographic was the first complicated timepiece I was ever exposed to... an 18 karat yellow gold limited edition sitting in the used case of a Rolex dealer. I marveled at how a watch could do so much with such a simple action of turning a second crown (it had a second crown!). Never had I seen a power reserve indicator, a second time zone in sub dial, cities printed around a disk, AM/PM indicator... you know the drill. After 15 years of learning and loving Swiss watches, the Master Geographic is sentimentally one of my all time favorite watches.
I love the JLC forum and come here often to see and read about the amazing Reversos and Memovoxes which seem to be the darlings of this forum, and of the extremely complicated timepieces you love to share with the community, but it seems like the Geographic never makes it on here and I wonder why?!
After all these years I'm considering to buy my first JLC, a Master Geographic in steel. Can anyone share with me something I may not know about the watch, such as known issues (good or bad) with the performance/reliability with the movement over time? I think I prefer the look of the dial on the 38mm over the new 39mm but perhaps the movement has been modified or improved over the previous iteration? Your expertise and insight is greatly appreciated!

I like the Master Geo...
It was one of my first "nice" watches that I purchased new many years ago. Mine is 38mm in rose gold and it is a nice size. I think the newer one looks a bit better, although I really like the hunter case back on my piece.
If I were to get another though, I would be tempted to pick up a second hand Master World Geographic...wish I would have gotten one of these when they were being made.

My favorite generation
IMO, this generation is the nicest aesthetically of the Master Geo line. I also like the compressor geo, which seems more harmonious having left off the reserve de marche; but I think the sportiness of that piece makes it a harder sell for the world traveler.

You are absolutely correct. The hinged caseback adds so much appeal to an already gorgeous watch. I would say of all I have seen, the 38mm Rose Gold looks the most natural of the entire series, and the hinged caseback makes it just that much more special. Truly Stunning!
Goo'day Mein Uhr, this is a very charistmatic watch....
in my opinion. This one has a special feature, "The Blue Town" is where Ernest Hemingway is buried, I find it quite interesting and romantic.

Wow... thank you for sharing the "Ketchum Geographic". Today I must stretch to obtain a mere steel Master Geographic... I'm afraid a Platinum piece is a long way off but perhaps one day?! Thank you for sharing your wonderful piece with me.

.. on a personal note, this was my second JLC ( following a Reverso Duo) ,
38 diameter/ ss.
That was way back more than 10 years ago - and I still very much love her
She still runs perfectly, keeps the time well and still has that low-key look,
which I like in watches - not too much bling, something you apprehend
only at the second look, but then enjoy what you see..
I have been in many countries, never let me down, always great to look at:
- the only thing, which I did miss and still do, are the very tiny luminous
dots, and a limited night- visibility of the hands, as well.
I guess and would expect that that luminosity has been improved, anyway
- to my assessment this is still a very fine watch - not more, not less
