Between the Deep Sea and the 'memovox' Polaris, Overall I prefer the Polaris, I say Polaris and not Deep Sea for you because your first choice is about a rather large watch and the Polaris isn't far from it.  Also I find the alarm of Polaris much better than the cricket alarm of the Deep Sea.
But whatever you do, what counts is what makes you happy.

I don't think the TT Polaris is available anymore...though if it was I think I would immediately grab that one and this wouldn't be an issue...

Some are spotting, from time to time.

Hi,

I was wondering, is the calibre in the Master Memovox different to the DSA? You mentioned that the DSA had a cricket alarm where as the Polaris has a different sound.... that got me wondering about the Master Memovox. I have heard the Master Memovox quite a few times as I am close to pulling the trigger but my AD just got a European DSA  in and I am now considering the DSA  too.... I have yet to hear the DSA and cannot seem to find info on its movement.

Thanks for the quick reply Nicholas. Just one question- if the movement is the same, why do people say the DSA has a cricket sound? The Master Memovox has a sound that I would not describe as "cricket". Is the difference due to the case design?

On the TT DSA, the choice to make it ring like a cricket was due to its vintage origins.

Indeed, the original sounded like a cricket.

So, this choice was made for the TT DSA, as an acoustical Tribute.

Therefore, this is the only modern Memovox sounding like that.

The TT DSA had to be different, even on the acoustical register.

Whatever the brand, the majority of watch lovers does not show great enthusiasm for stealthy models; They are hardly discussed most of the time.

If I want to play the Devil's advocate, I would say that the fact the bezel is not turning on the TT DSA was a bit risky, don't you think?

More seriously, playing the card of the faithful re edition is always risky, as each time you work on a re editon, and even more when it is a sacred monster.

And do not forget that JLC plays the card of the Tradition, but ALSO of the innovation, on other pieces.

in my opinion.  I am all for modern materials such as ceramic cases and styling that does not just reflect older, classic models, but in this case I would get the Tribute and look for a different modern watch.  As Nico said, you should be able to find this watch unworn.  Check the various online auction sites in addition to the collectiors market.  People love to buy watches like these and flip them.  Hope you are happy and enjoy whichever piece you decide to get.

I'm just curious if anyone with a ceramic cased watch (JLC or otherwise) could share their experience of the durability of the case.

I was looking at a recent IWC model with ceramic case but read a number of reports of the case chipping quite badly, particularly near the crown (if dropped) and costing a exhorbitant amount of money to repair.  I saw it explained as an issue of ceramic being very hard but not so tough, as compared to steel etc.  Obviously it isn't nice to think of watches dropping, but these things do happen.  Could be worth looking into, though I think the model you have in question is a fine piece.

Yeah, this is a good question....

It's brittle, and if you drop it you risk cracking it; it's as simple as that. So, you know what? Don't drop it. :-p

But seriously, I recently acquired a Top Gun Doppel and I have zero worries about wearing it as it was meant to be worn. The case is supremely scratch-resistant, non-corrosive and amagnetic, and it houses a proven, durable movement, so why would I? Will I be careful around door knobs and the like? Sure, just like I am with all of my watches, from the most affordable to the most expensive.

As for your present dilemma, you've really picked two completely opposite watches here, haven't you? A modern, ceramic-cased chronograph or a vintage-inspired alarm/diver that shouldn't be taken diving... Hmmm... Well, of the two, I'd choose the DSA (my preference is for the more unique American dial, however). I don't know quite what it is, but there's something about the MCCC that just leaves me cold. I took a long, hard look at one before I bought the Top Gun Doppel, but at the end of the day the larger, pilot-style case and Habring-designed rattrapante complication of the IWC won me over. Also, the somewhat controversial "Top Gun" association complements my Navy SEALs Diving Alarm Incursion better. ;-)

Good luck with your decision, Kour, but if I were you I wouldn't let any concerns over the ceramic case of the MCCC sway you unduly.
