Dear Fellow Purists,
For no other reason other than it is a fantastic watch and top of my wish list, please could you furnish me with experiences of ownership and as many scans as is possble of the above named timepiece. The thinking being, if I show my wife all your fantastic correspondence, she will be more positive when I break the news of my intended next purchase!! :o)
Kind Regards - David
Hi David,
I employ the same strategy and then wear her down by leaving watch magazines around the house open at the appropriate pages.
I have been a happy owner of the Grand Date for the last 3 years. It was my daily ‘work watch’ for the first couple of years, but now I wear it less frequently in rotation with others. The great thing about the 8 day reserve is that I wind it every Sunday and it’s always sitting in my watch box ready to go when I feel like wearing it again.
Apart from an initial trip (under warranty) back to the factory for a ‘sticky’ date wheel, it has functioned flawlessly and is always within a dozen seconds of the correct time.
Nicolas is correct about trying it on before you commit. It’s not so much your wrist diameter, but more the shape of your wrist, position and prominence of the ulnar styloid process and how you like to wear your watches. I find the XGT case sits very comfortably, as I have a ‘flat’ wrist, and is also fine under cuffs (not too thick).
It’s great to have easy access to the Cal.875 movement with a flick of the case and as has been said many times (about this and other JLC products), the watch is a great balance of virtues in the design, history and finishing departments at this price point.
Kind regards,
Andrew
