I don't necessarily agree with the comment about online sales being detrimental to a brand... Apple is a strong international brand, yet their online sales presence is very smooth and integral to their success and product access. For JLC, the online experience of their website is a bit cheeky (do we really need pop-ups every second trying to get you to chat to an AI agent?!).
In any case, if the JLC/Richemont online sales model was very clear and explicit that your timepiece was being shipped directly from the factory to you (and not some warehouse in Texas), then it might have a little more respectability. If the goal is to establish a personal relationship with brand representatives, why can't that be done online? Why can't you 'drop in' to the JLC online boutique and have an intelligent, informed conversation about the watches like you would an AD? Not to be overly critical, but the representatives you speak with are just taking orders and have no familiarity with the JLC products, even superficially, other than what they can look up on the computer (which you can do yourself). Maybe it's not the model that is flawed, but in JLC's case the execution...?
Online sales for laptops…
…headphones, etc., things that are commodities, are different than luxury goods.

It doesn’t mean the retailer will always have the product available, but I can’t imagine in the 21st century this problem couldn’t be figured out (maybe not by JLC in this instance, but maybe some other brand that has their act together).
I think someone will figure it out...
...perhaps have every model available to try on at an AD or boutique, and have the watch shipped directly to the buyer when (if) it becomes available. A lot of it will depend on price point. With anything 'expensive,' many consumers will want personal service.

But I agree JLC has some image issues, and I think that's been the story for a long time.

I would say the problems are:
1. Richemont don’t know if they have other priorities but they DESTROYED JLC.
2. Quality Control (see above)
3. No real hero product that I lust after except Duoface (ruined by see above)
4. A lack of (as mentioned in the clip) in store bespoke relationships. (The manager in NY is a pill)
So…yes they should go high end but privatize (build a moat of separation from Richemont) and offer truly specialized, bespoke products and services markedly apart from Richemont (they would be better off with a parent company based in hell and a CEO named Satan) that reflects a higher quality control and perhaps a new sport watch with an integrated bracelet that EXCITES people. This brand sorely lacks excitement🤩🤩🤩

Somehow it reminds me of how Grand Seiko is doing.
Numerous limited edition, online sale and many look alike models and increase in pricing.
They are East and West watch manufacturers, they make watches in house. They also have many fans.
In short, I think JLC has not caught up with the trends yet. Polaris is trying.
Gone are the days of the Master Compressor and Aston Martin era.
Maybe the manufacturer is just too conservative and has been staying in the comfortable zone for too long.
I would not be surprised if one day the group becomes one of LVMH.

There was the titanium AMVOX, not that JLC need to follow the recent trend and you are right, no daring enough.
With today's technology, manufacturing accurate and anti-magnetic movements is not rocket science.
There are watch manufacturers using new composite materials to make watches.
The JLC extreme Lab, it is now gone.
Fans of JLC can only say the manufacturer was one step ahead of others in those days. That was the old days.

i want to want to want a Reverso, and my wife DOES wants one...
...when she saw it on the series Halt And Catch Fire. The problem is their current quality, possible service costs, and how about a single-face Reverso with a VERY lovely HAND finished movement on the other side? How about a Grand Seiko in a Reverso type casing. Price it at $7000.

The only thing I'll say, their service costs are on the lower end overall. My full service last year was less than $900....
Their servicing costs are reasonable.
That is one of the important elements to keep loyal customers.

Not that i mind deep discounts, which is very common with JLC, but if they don't produce anything desirable the price does not matter now does it? Surely a $7000 SS reverso with display back showcasing 'Grand Seiko' dial quality and movement finishing is do-able. Perhaps JLC should partner with Seiko for a special release to help revive the Reverso line ???
An interesting perspective but certainly very repetitive. I am not sure that all the comparators are what I consider to be the height of desire.
I have had a great experience with JLC. In recent years they have overly focused on the Reverso which I have succumbed to at times while still pleading for a new duometre.

Yes I do think that JLC is under appreciated by the masses but I don’t collect or acquire what the market determines as valuable or significant.
I can’t imagine that having a unique piece with artistry is a bad thing.
Should I be swayed by the fact that these watches don’t make enough per watch as do others like Rolex.
I could go on but….

To me the reverso is amongst the greatest watches of all time
And I really mean it... I have a medium duoface and I LOVE IT. JLC as a brand is unfortunately suffering because of bad management. The collection is stale. They kept focusing on pushing the brand upmarket by raising prices and making extremely expensive and limited hybris mechanica pieces, forgetting what their core audience wants. It's a shame, because Cartier is being so amazingly successful within the same group by doing exactly that: listening to the enthusiast. Not to mention that while Cartier doesn't actually need to listen to us, JLC certainly does, as watch nerds are their core buyers.
P.S. I love dress watches and, like most people who do, I am fond of smaller sizes. Most of JLC's collection is made of dress watches that are a little too big to be appreciated by me and others. Since guys who like larger watches are usually into sports watches, why not make the dress watches more appealing to the people who would actually buy them?

A wider vision, with watches for everybody from the summit of horology to the base, with some daring offers between, yes, that would be great.
