Looking for some info on this vintage Polaris.......

A friend of mine reached out to me today in regards to getting info on this vintage JLC. I know this is a desirable piece but I'm not much of a vintage collector so I figured I'd post it here in the hopes of getting some helpful info.
This piece was bought at a flea market in NYC in the 1980's then set in an attic, in a junk bin, for about 40 years before the owner rediscovered it very recently. I know quite a few versions of the Polaris were produced in the 60's, is anyone familiar with this particular model?
The watch is not currently running so he is going to send it in to JLC for a full service, I knew enough to tell him not to have the case polished or the dial touched. The acrylic crystal is pretty scratched up, is it ok to have that fixed/replaced or would it be better off if the crystal stayed in its original condition? Thanks in advance for any feedback, it's very much appreciated!
Tony
Superb Polaris 1967, which is a quite rare batch. The more common batch is from 1968.

All seems correct here, with a superb unpolished case, a great dial. No need to send it to the Manufacture for a service. Any good watchmaker will do it for you, for much less, and try to save the plexy with some toohpaste, first.
