After seeing so many wonderful vintage watches posted here by you and others, I’ve wondered why, in most cases, I prefer the old to the new.
Marketing departments have an insatiable desire to tweak things; they can’t just leave well enough alone, so each iteration has to be a little bigger, a little shinier, etc. And I think that’s how form becomes less and less related to function, and purity of design is lost.
The same argument can be made for cars, although it must be conceded that some automotive design changes are spurred by technology and mandated by regulators.
Just some thoughts on a Sunday morning.
