Calling on the JLC expert! Reverso movement question...between caliber 822 and 854...
JLC reverso have been on my radar for quite some time. I am looking for the a large model with Arabic numeral and notice the single face and dual face model with that front dial have different movements. The duo face has caliber 854A/2:
The single face version seems to be powered by caliber 822/2:
Are both of these movement similar in terms of rate accuracy or is one of them “better” meaning it would likely provide better rate accuracy. Not sure what I should expect from them on that dimension. Thanks in advance for any insights! This would also be my first JLC!
Rate accuracy...
Rate accuracy in this context should be about the same. Although in real life, one doesn't know without having both watches tested simultaneously.
Both have 21.6K vph, similar brand, somewhat similar architecture. The dual face has more drag and resistance (moving two hands, so higher weight), so that may affect it slightly.
I also prefer the thin-ness of the 822, so I recommend the 822.
The Duo is very nice. But I find that it's not that useful in my real life. It's also significantly thicker.
If you're buying new thought all new JLCs go through 1000 hr Master Control tests. But others may be able to confirm that
Both are beating at the pace of 21,600 alternances per hour. In terms of accuracy, there is not really one better than the other. But I prefer the nice architecture of the 822.
The 854 is the 822 suped-up...

The 822 is very PURE, classic Swiss architecture. The 854 is PURE GENIUS.
Honestly, there's not a bad answer here. My first Reverso was a monoface with an engraving of my last initial (see my avatar), my second Reverso was the Grande GMT on bracelet. I could easily collect Reversos.

The only quantification relevant to the 2016 (pre-SIHH) Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso Duoface is the "Golden Ratio".

The 822.2 and 854.2 are identical movements with the obvious additions of motion works added to the going train side of the movement to provide the additional time display.
Incidentally the .2 designation refers to the changes to the hair spring and balance which is now a “free sprung balance”. It no longer has a regulateur and is instead adjusted for rate via the screw weights on the balance wheel. Also the removal of the 2 x cap jewels on the escape wheel of the 822.2 reduces the jewel count to 19 from 21.
