The movement is the same, Cal 876, manual winding 8 days Perpetual Calendar. 

The case has been slightly revisited, in platinum for the 2003 Edition, in steel for the 2012 edition. The bezel is slimmer on the latter. 

The main difference is the dial. Especially the moon phase, the night and day and the power reserve indicators.

why? because the first the first suffers from a lack of color , this makes the whole very dull.

Cleaner dial in general. And they've changed the typeface subtly too, I think, to a cleaner typeface. The old one was a tad cluttered visually.

I just wish that JLC would have put a visual moonphase, instead of the pointer-style, which I dislike.

I prefer the first one but...readability is poor. I recently owned a Master Grad Reveil and it was so hard to read the time under low light condition that I sold this watch.

Here is the same...I guess ist better if the guys at LeSentier will spend blue hands...

Perfect proportions...40mm...not small, but not big either (down 1.5mm from the prior version, I believe).

The slimmer bezel and lugs make a big difference as well.

I also like the splash of color on the newer MP 8-day.

One quibble I have with both is that I wish JLC could somehow shift the year or a leap year indicator to the backside. I feel the year aperture disturbs the symmetry. Alternatively, include a leap year indicator in a subdial, like a traditional perpetual calendar layout.

All that said, I really like the newer MP 8-days. The dial glows and is very beautiful on the wrist. And for those of us who don't want to keep watches constantly on a winder, the 8-day movement is convenient.

You are right, John, the newer is 1, 5 mm smaller. Which is a very good point, IMO. 3 / 1 for the latter.

The first one is nice but a tad "boring" in today's design standards IMHO (although it is more discreet and some collectors may prefer that)
