this 'bucks' can't get much stuff anymore.
Most watches are way over price nowadays and very likely it's just me from being out of touch from all these smile

what a great pair

if it is "forever" I guess I would pick the tourbillon because I think at some point the Resonance will be too hard to wind with old fingers ... at least that is something I sometimes think about! Otherwise I cannot imaging being without the Resonance, myself.

Andreas

good thinking but ....

 By: CL : December 23rd, 2013-14:56
this Resonance has been serviced and it's not that difficult to wind.
It's just a matter of how use to it you are. Though I think I will have a hard time to set the time when I get older...haha

I'd keep the Tourbillon and sell the Resonance

 By: AnthonyTsai : December 23rd, 2013-12:39

because it's a more interesting watch to look at visually IMO.

Cheers,
Anthony

I was thinking this way too....

 By: CL : December 23rd, 2013-14:58
until two girls I know and another gentleman who owns both watches told me the other way.
Then again , is look worth double the price ? hmmm....good question for me to think over the holidays smile

Looks definitely is worth the price

 By: AnthonyTsai : December 23rd, 2013-15:01

It's the watch dial that you'll be drooling over whenever the watch is on your wrist smile

Keep the watch that mesmerizes your eyes.  I stared at the tourbillon cage a lot when I had my Journe.  I've never had a Resonance but I don't think I would stare as often at the Resonance dial than the Tourbillon dial.

I'd sell both and buy a Gyrotourbillon One...

Biased, me???

Tssss... No!

I would have to sell u both ......

 By: CL : December 23rd, 2013-15:00
inorder to have enough fund for the gyrotourbillon.

For the general public, I would need two set of these to get the Gyro...it's way over price and oversize :-P

Well, the price is something, I can't disagree, but the size is still human ( 43 mm ).

 By: amanico : December 23rd, 2013-15:21

You should think about it...

I was tempted but ....

the strap can't wrap around my puny wrist.
It'a an amazing watch...I really love it smile

Sophie's choice

 By: AndrewD : December 23rd, 2013-13:01
Very hard to choose between these siblings. But if you HAVE to keep only one ...

It really comes down to your gut feeling. Both watches are characteristically 'F.P.Journe'. The resonance concept is fairly unique, but the combination of remontoir and tourbillon is also rare and a Journe 'signature' too. Mechanically and conceptually which one speaks to you more? For me it's the tourbillon. Which do you prefer on your wrist? If you are someone (as many here are) who is attracted by the symmetrical dial then you may enjoy looking at the Resonance, but I prefer the variety of the TS dial. How useful is a second time zone to you? Is there any difference in the condition of the watches, any oxidation of the dial? Is there a unique story to one or the other watch that add to its 'significance' to you? Are the boxes and papers complete? Is one earlier in the production run?

These are the questions I would be asking myself.

Let us know what difficult decision you come to, but if you have to keep one, there is hardly a wrong answer. That's an enviable situation too.

Regards

Andrew

Hi Andrew...Happy Holidays :-)

I like both the look smile

The tourbillon is incomplete , with no original paper and manual but has the replacement paper.
It also has a chip on the crystal which can be fixed easily during servicing.
So yes, it will need to send for servicing at one point.
Price wise, it s double of the Resonance.

The Resonance has everything and was serviced not long ago.

That's the dilemma. Should the tourbillon is serviced at this rate, it will be so much easier, I guess.

I was already leaning for the Resonance..

After these extra infos…….RESONANCE ALL THE WAY:price,condition,horological relevance,character ,uniqueness…etc etc…

Mo

I support all of Andrews points

 By: 4Js : December 23rd, 2013-16:06
The key to me is if you need two time zones.   If not, then the tourby has so much more to offer.  If instead it is more of a concept decision for uniqueness and icon, then th resonance.  I for one prefer the latest resonance since I overcome the second time zone point by calling it a 24 hour indicator.  And. Get to play with the seconds reset!

I still go for tourby. I think you will be mor mesmerized

As for Nicolas, we knows his grail is that gyro. He is a big watch man. The Journe is all about thin and elegance and stealth, until you pull back your sleeve and show that tourby!

Besides the time zone, money is th second driver here.

Best in your decision

Joe

this is a gut decision: which appeals to you more. I might select the tourbillon. (nt)

...for the reason you cite.  Better to keep both if you can, of course!  Those sparkling gold dials are magical.

I'm seriously thinking having both smile

Resonance ...

 By: Marcus Hanke : December 23rd, 2013-16:31
--- because it is the horologically more unique watch. When I heard the name of M. Journe for the first time, it was about his claim that a resonance watch would work. I still recall the debates his first drawings initiated, and when he finally built the watch, the watch world even increased the discussion if resonance exists or not.

resonance...

 By: optionc : December 23rd, 2013-18:10
My view is that I would choose the resonance hands down.  It is the iconic journe, the complication is amazing, and when factoring the extras (including recent service)... it would be the definitive choice for me.

OpC

I'm a bit biased

 By: Strizzy : December 23rd, 2013-18:33
As I am a Resonance owner myself, but it is the iconic Journe. Also just in terms of aesthetics I like it better.

availability

 By: cmclee : December 23rd, 2013-18:41

I think one more factor to add is the availability/rarity of both watches ?  If the tourby is rarer, that ups the acquisition desire to own it.  Assuming you like both the resonance and tourby just as much.  Perhaps the fact that you even mentioned it here is your heart desires the tourby but your mind says its grossly over priced.

Go with your heart my friend !

Seconded on this...

 By: doobooloo : December 23rd, 2013-20:06
Both are marvelous pieces! Lovely color on both dials.

As a fellow FPJ tourby owner contemplating potentially adding a resonance, one thing that is holding me back from acquiring the piece is the fact the resonance is more readily available on the second hand market in various versions. There are a few tourbys out there too, but definitely less than the resonance.

So the sell the one that is more easily replaceable down the road. smile This way you are better hedged against irreparable regret risk!

Given this, for me personally, if I buy a resonance I would like it to be something that is harder to replace, such as ruthenium, titanium, MOP, or black...

I don't think you know how

 By: CL : December 24th, 2013-09:15
difficult it is to find this Resonance. I can buy the ruthenium one if I want now but it takes a lot to get the shiny dial Resonance smile

I humbly stand corrected...

CL,

You have opened my eyes. Until now I did not have much interest in gold colored dials, so had assumed the shiny YG dials are as easily gettable as the later matte versions! Very fascinating stuff, thanks for letting me know. Now I'm adding the shiny YG to my list of non-generic Journes to hunt for!

Given this, it indeed seems like a no brainer to keep both. smile
