The Bugatti Vitesse in blue is my favorite all around.

The use of high tech materials integrates nicely with the car theme and makes it actually look "fast".

Kudos to the whole team and looking forward to more photographs and a test drive sometime soon.

Best,
Tim

Parmigiani and Bugatti Event at Pebble Beach 2013: Part 2

 By: ED209 : August 20th, 2013-19:40

Parmigiani displayed their Bugatti Super Sport watches with the PF372 hand wound movement.  But before we take a look at these unique Parmigiani watches, we walked over to the adjacent display of the Bugatti Type 46.

Built in 1930 this restored Bugatti is owned by noted Bugatti collector Mr. Rick Adams.  It was a interesting coincidence that today I showed these pictures to a close friend of mine who is a graduate of the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA.  He mentioned to me that he distinctly remembers seeing this exact Bugatti Type 46 last year where it won the Art Center Car Classic Designer's Choice award.

Next up is part 3, where we take a closer look at the Parmigiani watch collection including the Parmigiani Super Sport and the special edition Parmigiani Pershing Chronograph.

Overlooking the Pacific Ocean.  Met some wonderful people, enjoyed the rare vintage cars and fantastic watches, and good food.  It was a lot of fun.  Wish you could have joined us.

An amazing car.

 By: patrick_y : August 21st, 2013-01:36

As Ed-209 already stated, this is a beautiful Type 46 Coupe.  It has already won numerous accolades.  I'm personally a huge fan of pre-war cars and have seen many Rolls Royce Phantom II vehicles, Mercedes 500K and 540K vehicles, the Maybach DS8, and other Packards etc. of the era.  But this is truly a rare bird, one that isn't easily nor commonly seen.

Parmigiani Watches and Bugatti.

That's a beautiful car.

Literally, a travel trunk, is attached to the car's rear.  Along with two spare tires.

Notice the step plate and the flowing front fender in black.

The width and depth of this fender, something that you see more in cars from the pre-war era.  A beautiful and curvaceous fender.

I really like this fender, but also notice the "fox nose" bonnet, another trademark design of cars from the 1930s.

The perfect amount of chrome.  Not restrained, but not too much.

The car is filled with expression.  It appears as the car is looking up and thinking.  What would cars think about?

This light is a marking lamp.

Notice the step under the door.

Two beautiful and rare Bugatti vehicles side by side.

This is a car that will haunt my memories.  Truly a fine car, and one that has the potential to win Concours d'Elegance Pebble Beach.

Stunning Bugatti.

Parmigiani and Bugatti Event at Pebble Beach 2013: Part 3 The Watches

 By: ED209 : August 20th, 2013-22:58
Working together since 2001, Parmigiani and Bugatti first introduced the Bugatti Type 370 in 2004 with a movement inside a cylindrical case that had the parts arranged like a transversal engine.  I remember seeing and handling the Type 370 at a Parmigiani event a few years ago hosted by my local AD here in SoCal.  It was amazing to see it work and to have the dial displayed on the side of the case.  And in 2010 to celebrate Bugatti's 100 year anniversary, Parmigiani designed the Super Sport that utilizes some of the Type 370 designs but integrates the dynamic styling of the Bugatti Veyron's streamlined body.  All 333 parts of the Parmigiani Super Sport is made in-house and produced in a limited edition of 30 pieces.  Power reserve is an impressive 10 days made possible by two series-coupled barrels.

During SIHH 2013, Parmigiani unveiled the new Bugatti Vitesse.  The case of the watch is made of titanium and measures 36mm by 50mm by 2mm with six sapphire crystals.  There are two models, with the orange colored version offered with a carnelian stone on the crown, and a lapis lazuli stone on the crown of the blue colored model.  Movement is the manual wind PF372.  The dial on the Vitesse is made of Texalium which looks somewhat similar to carbon fiber, but is unique in that it is a fiberglass based fabric with a thin coat of aluminum which gives it a metallic reflective surface.

Continuing with the partnership with Bugatti, Parmigiani offers the Atalante Flyback Chronograph which debuted during the 2010 SIHH.  This was actually the first flyback chronograph movement for Parmigiani and uses the PF 335 caliber movement.  The dial is unique and pays homage to Bugatti's styling.  The open-worked dial has vertical skeletonized bars which is inspired by the Bugatti Atalante 57S grill.  The 'EB' Bugatti emblem is adorned in rose gold at the 6 o'clock position and the Parmgiani Fleurier plate is located at the 12 o'clock position.

The women's version of the Atalante is available in 18k white or rose gold.  The bezel is set with 68 diamonds totaling approx 1.05 carats.  I like the the fine details of having the subdial set with smaller diamonds around the perimeter of the subdial.

Also on display was the limited edition Parmigiani  Fleurier Pershing 'Confederacao Brasileira de Futebol' Chronograph.  This watch collection is part of the Parmigiani / CBF partnership that will run through to 2015.  As some may already know, the CBF is the governing body of soccer (aka football) in Brazil, which is also host country of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.  The Pershing Chronograph is offered in various precious metals with a 45mm size case and the PF334 automatic movement and Hermes alligator strap.  Power reserve is good for 50 hours.

The men's model is offered in either a titanium or rose gold case and rose gold bezel.  On display were the CBF versions and a regular production versions.

In typical Parmigiani fashion, the women's version is luxuriously done with a diamond set pink gold bezel with a 42mm diameter stainless steel case.  The dial is visually iridescent mother-of-pearl with pink gold numerals and hour markers.  The watch is easy to read with the blue outlined delta shaped hour and minute luminous hands. This model is paired with the PF334 movement and comes with a white Hermes alligator strap with deployment buckle.

Next is the welcome speech and dinner presented by Bugatti collector Mr. Hull and Ms. Mazzocchi of Parmigiani Fleurier Americas.  Stayed for more from the event.

ED-209

I am not a big fan of these big round chronographs, but I always admired these

Somehow romantic Parmigiani Bugatti. I was wondering since when they existed, your text reminded me, à propos, that it is almost 10 years!

I really love the concept behind these créations, and these latest offers are no exception to the rule!

The Super sport is really my taste.

Thanks for these photos, and for the report!

Best,

Nicolas

There are a lot of similiarities

Hi Nicolas,
Thanks for the comments on the watches, especially the Super Sport.

Having a really hard time picking out my favorite...

 By: patrick_y : August 21st, 2013-22:54
Thank you for explaining the EB logo.  Now here's the problem.  I really like the EB logo (no Bugatti watch should be without it IMO) but I think the definitive Bugatti watch should be the Super Sports model.  But now I'm lamenting, the Super Sports watch doesn't have the EB logo!  Choices choices choices.

The 57S is a real time capsule. The condition makes me hallucinate.

Me too. And I was there. Surprised I could hold the camera straight. [nt]

Very Fortunate To Be Able To Attend

 By: patrick_y : August 21st, 2013-22:46
I had the good fortune to attend this event and witness these beautiful machines in person first-hand.  Many thanks to Parmigiani, Bugatti, and the two friends whom I was fortunate enough to attend this event with.

Parmigiani and Bugatti Event at Pebble Beach 2013: Part 4 Dinner

 By: ED209 : August 21st, 2013-20:44

The perfect setting for elegance and style, the guests enjoyed the peaceful views of the Pacific Ocean.  Parmigiani displayed several of their watches including the Parmigiani Atalante Flyback Chronograph limited edition for the CBF.

Guests were treated to a bagpipe performance throughout the evening as the sun set over the horizon and the fog rolled in
:

Impressive ice sculpture, it looks like the Parmigiani Bugatti Vitesse!

The luxurious dining room set up for all the guests to enjoy dinner:

And a speech by Ms. Mazzocchi of Parmigiani and noted Bugatti collector Mr. Hull to welcome all the guests:

Here's a short video of the speech, and Mr. Hull mentions the partnership between Parmgiani and Bugatti and how the relationship is very similar.  Both have historically been involved in restoration and both strive for excellence and quality in their work.

Dinner began with a locally grown Carmel Valley heirloom tomatoes, home made burrata cheese, a splash of basil oil and a micro salad.  If you look closely there is a dollop of 'caviar' but it turned out to be pearls of balsamic vinegar.  Delicious!

A glass of chardonnay and pinot noir from the Boekenoogen Estate Vineyard and Winery, which is a located in the Santa Lucia Highlands nearby in Monterey County.  Both were excellent and paired well with the courses, and I love the fact that the chef sourced locally available wines and ingredients.

And our main course, a surf and turf with a 48 hour braised short rib and a olive oil poached salmon.

Dessert was an artfully plated bergamont custard with stone fruit salsa, a cinnamon crisp, garnished with micro flowers:

We had a wonderful time with Parmigiani and Bugatti.  Special thanks to Ms. Mazzocchi and the esteem owner/host of the estate, thank you for such a warm welcome inside your home!  It was truly a great experience to spend time with the rare vintage Bugatti's and view some spectacular Parmigiani watches.

Hope you all enjoyed the pics!
