. . . for your correspondent began in the middle of the afternoon, when fellow Ventura County resident mrsnak swung by to pick me up for the drive down to Santa Monica. Snak had a prior meeting with a record industry friend who resides a few blocks from the restaurant we were meeting at in Santa Monica, so we stopped there first. It turned out that Snak's pal has two interesting clocks that were in need of attention, a Le Coultre . . .
. . . and a rare Parkinson & Frodsham marine chronometer . . .
. . . which Snak dutifully accepted so that he could have a clockmaker inspect them.
Nice to have friends you can trust, and vice versa . . . This message has been edited by Dr No on 2012-03-02 17:56:13 This message has been edited by AndrewD on 2012-03-05 16:39:02
...with the LLD is burning brighter than ever. There's something about that lacquer dial and the color used for the indices that just hits my sweet spot!
...that at a "perpetual (calendar)" event you'd sport a time only.
I have always liked the look of the LLD too, and always get a little tug when I see one on sales forums. Having only seen it once in person I wondered if I'd get bored with it for some reason.
It was a very fun evening. I wish you could've joined in! The weather here is gorgeous, and we could go vintage hunting with Art, Snak and others! If only the Star Trek transporter beam would get invented already
...watches with dates generally, so calendar watches -- even the vaunted perpetual calendar, are not that interesting to me in terms of potential additions to my watchbox. There are very few perpetuals that catch my eye. My number one choice, if pocketbook allowed, would be the DeBethune DB26. The only other perpetual that captures my imagination is the 42mm UN GMT Perpetual. I love the oversize skeleton hands on that model, and the well-designed calendar functions on the watch.

Steve was wearing a Gevril perpetual Wednesday evening . . .
. . . while Bart was wearing his everyday watch, a Glashütte Original cal 100 Senator perpetual . . .
. . . and his other half, Judy, was wearing their cal 39 limited edition Navigator perpetual. Bart's a kindred soul - another dyed-in-the-wool G O perpetual buff! This message has been edited by Dr No on 2012-03-04 11:27:14
...but Cazalea's new Seiko has a very cool dial. It's a repeating pattern that is reminiscent of carbon fiber, but is made up of the original Seiko quartz logo, I think.
... I was always a fan of the complete GST series, and still firmly believe that it was a wrong decision by IWC to discontinue it. For me, the sportive titanium GST perpetual always was the king of the whole series, ahead of the steel and gold models.
Great company. I was fortunate enough to be seated with Dr. No and Mitch -- they imparted many watch collecting stories. I'm looking forward to the next dinner! Thank you Dr. No, Daos, and Anthony for organizing!
