Horological Meandering

Hi All,

 

Now that the dust has settled on the two major watch fairs of the year, SIHH and Basel, which watches have floated to the top and stayed in your mind? What pieces will you take a second look at when they arrive at the dealers and boutiques?

 

Here are some of the memorable pieces for me:  

 

DeBethune DB28 (with blued titanium lugs)

Audemars Piguet Millenary 4101

H. Moser & Cie Perpetual 1 Golden Edition

Harry Winston Midnight Big Date (RG with black dial)

Sarpaneva Korona K3 Northern Stars (WG with blue dial version; LE of 10)

Jaquet Droz Bird Sculpture

Svend Andersen World Time with blue gold dial

Stowa Flieger Chronograph

And my favourite balance spring of the year: the Montblanc Tourbillon Bi-Cylindrique with paired cylindrical hairsprings.

These all cought my eyes and left impression in my mind.  Of course, I have forgot some others, and I apologize in such cases.

1/ TT DSAs: I'm totally biased, but this pair is my absolute winner:



2/ TT Reverso 1931, Worlwide version, the SS one:



3/ The Duometre à Q.L in white gold, a terrific black beauty.

4/ Panerai: It has been a very long time since I didn't say that a modern Panerai was my favourite of the year.

In fact, since 2006, when Panerai released the Cali.

This year, the Pam 372, the so called Fiddy Base, is THE one, for me.



5/ GP: Tourbillon with 3 Gold Bridges: One of the nicest tourbillon ever made... So tempting!



6/ Eva Leube... How can't I mention it? Inspired, original, a superb blend of modern and retro, a touch of madness, one of the " strong watches " of this year, to me.

5.De Bethune DB25T Regulator Tourbillon : ... ... -.- ... ... -.- ... ... speechless -.-

 

For me... it has to be the Opus 11 and the final edition of the HM2... both beautiful watches IMHO!

It's an interesting exercize as I had to come back to what I saw concerning the SIHH 3 months ago and because we have to make quite a selection.

As a conclusion I would say that I'm surprised I finally selected only original and audacious work, with a high inner engine, leaving aside all the "big" manufactures, which seemed to me, in comparison, a bit fader. Often unaffordable but highly desirable from my point of view.

And a special wink for the Millenary 4101.

. . . which both capture the gestalt of their respective eras, but not quite to the same extent as the GS 130th Anniversary model.

Harry Winston midnight big date are my favorite. As far as dream watches that are unattainable for myself I love the AP millenary minute repeater and the GP tourbillon with three gold bridges. I imagine it is very difficult to come up with new and interesting models every year, but most the houses have managed to do so.

The Laurent Ferrier timepiece is of great interest to me and has the potential to be my favorite of the year.

In the meanwhile, I love the Richard Lange Tourbillon PLM.

Very happy with the Jaeger-leCoultre Memovox Tribute to Deep Sea.

Patek Philippe has always captivated me with the 6000, this is the watch that started my love for Patek Philippe. The new rose gold variant is interesting, haven't seen it yet.

The new 47MM Panerais are great! I love the 47MM size.

And the Ludovic Ballouard PuristSPro watch is my last favorite of the year.

Patek 5270G (Love the new day/night and leap year indicators. I think its works with the dial really well. )
Patek 5550P with the new escapement, which I love from a technical standpoint, but hate aesthetically.
HW Opus 11 (Blew me away!)
Gronefeld One Hertz (So cool!)
FM Giga Tourbillon (a bit gaudy, but the tourbillon is gorgeous!)
