Horological Meandering

A few months ago, while I was on that famous auction site, I was looking at a Girard Perregaux Pocket Watch. It had I believe no reserve price so I thought OK, something has to be wrong.

Nope, it looked to be in mint condition the case, crystal and movement looked to be in running order. I want to say it dated back to the 1950's not to old but still a nice looking piece.

But for some stupid unknown reason, I passed up on it. Even If I told you how much it sold for, you probably wouldn't believe me lol. If I recall I want to say the final bid was just under $200.00??? Not 100% Sure but I know it was low, I mean stupid low.

I'm sure my experience is the same for many vintage collectors. When you start collecting, you have
no real sense of rarity, you see a watch and think, that's nice but I'm not sure. When you are sure, it's gone,
then you don't see another for a couple of months, which turns into a year, which turns into a couple of years.
Which turns into five years...

This is the birth of a grail watch and you look back and think - Why?

The other experience is that you see a watch and the price is say, 500 and you think, that's just a bit too expensive.
A year goes by and you see the watch again and now it's, 1000 and you think, wow that's just a bit too expensive.
Then three years goes by and you see the watch and now it's, 3000 and you think, I should have bought it at 500! LOL.

There is a saying about buying a house in the UK. The seller thinks it's worth 10% more than you pay, and the buyer thinks they're
paying 10% more than it's worth.

.... of my experience now you mentioned Girard Perregaux...

Once I saw a preowned Girard Perregaux Three Gold Bridge Tourbillon in Platinum, for 30% of the MSRP!

You could imagine the regret for not taking that watch. Never seen another one for close to that price.

The other one I regret until today is a prestine platinum Dato with platinum deployant at less than half the MSRP.

I'm actually very relieved on many instances not to have pulled the trigger when te impulse bug hit.  On the few occassions that I bought on impulse (and this means different things for different people), I have almost always regretted it as quick as the next few days.

I let go an Omega vintage moon phase. I had just
emnark into this hoby and my knowledge then was minimum.
(Not that I'm an expert now, still learning).
Then after few months I commited the biggest
blunder. I let go a SS PP for 500 USD.
Can you beat that. The dial was redone,
and this stupid me let it pass. Phew!!!!

Yes yours is a painful common experience.I once passed on a submariner lv 5 years ago going for 7k,brand new.Later for my regret,I bought the newer one with the rolex inscriptions for 115% above list price. Next,I passed on a coke gmt master just discontinued, and never got the chance to buy a brand new one again! Last, I saw the Polaris on the rack and thought it would always be there,then poof it was gone! But the most painful one was the gefica,which in my opinion is the watch that looks best on me-I passed on that and the company is gone(don't want bulgari version)!

i happened to me  a Couple of Times. but i ended up buying Both for :

 1 i paid Double than the Original Price was offered to me and

the 2nd one i paid 50% More than the Origibnal offered ;0((((

 but C'est  La Vie !!
