Horological Meandering

I finally decided t o buy my first rose gold watch. My choice is based on the following criteria:

- Type: Time only

- Size: 38 - 40 mm

- Thickness - 8-10 mm

- Manual or automatic

I usually buy manual winding watches but I wanted to be flexible with my potential new acquisition and I therefore selected what was for me the best manual winding and the best automatic for a predetermined budget and I came up with these two:

　

　And now I am stuck as I love both watches. I know that both manufactories have very different philosophies and the watches generate different 'aura' .... Please advise and any comments will be welcomed. Is there any watch within the same budget and the same criteria which I missed out?

Both are great watches and I wouldn't want to have to choose, but from a personal standpoint I would take the Sixties.

I prefer the dial of this watch.

But if you haven't got any German watches yet, you should pick the one with Glashutte DNA

I'm obviously biased.

I already ave a German watch, Dornbluth 99.1, and I don't mind having a second one

... Mayu because of small differences - (1) size, and (2) manual winding.

FYI, Moser is in Schaffhausen, close to IWC, which is ALMOST in Germany, and you will feel the German style a bit, too.

Either way, you will not go wrong.  Enjoy deciding - that is half of the fun, right?

I have more in-person experience with the Mayu, because my co-worker (and fellow Purist, CaliforniaJed) has one.  I love the Sixties, but for me the Mayu wins for its clean style and beautiful wrist presence.  Of course, I prefer the watch in palladium.

but my vote goes to MAYU

whihc has cleaner, more sophisticated lines if that is what you are after.  The Sixties for me is more casual which is not wrong.

in respect to the standerds you sat my vote would go to the Sixties ... against my own expectations this opinion i have to admit but again i say the given in here is diferent .

... because of its dial and hands. The GO is a re-edition of an older watch, rather from the early Seventies than the Sixties. Its major asset is the highly domed sapphire on front and back, permitting to see the venerable cal. 39 movement from the side. The quality is out of question, but in my eyes it has nowhere the high-class elegant appearance as the Moser.

Besides the fine hand-winding movement, I love the Moser's hands. They are like sculptures, and normally perfectly finished.

... actually dials of these watches are quite different, i.e. Mayu has sub-dial second... comparing these two watches, Sixties has much clean and simple layout.

but if you use Monard and compare it against Sixties which both have similar dail... then, the winner will go to Manard because of its 7 days power reserve!

I would opt for the GO, preferring the case design and overall proportions. IMO, the Mayu has a more contemporary look. It also feels noticeably larger and thicker on the wrist, so it really depends on what you prefer. Either way, they are both great choices.

but I prefer the Mayo's case, dial and hands.

as you can see from all the responses above.  You can't go wrong with either choice.  The best thing is to go to a local dealer(s) and try on a GO and Moser on the wrist.  Then you'll know which one you'll like better. 

If you don't have any local dealers near you with the above watches, then you should probably base your decision on what type of watch you prefer.  The Moser seems to be a tad thicker so it'll wear slightly bigger IMO.  If you like super thin watches, then the GO will be for you.  If you like a thicker watch, then the Moser is your choice.

Why? Becoz the movement is better finished, IMHO. The overall watch is better finished....look at the hands. The GO has a cal 39(?) which can be had in cheaper SS versions, and philosophically more aligned. The GO has the dome glass, which is it's saving grace, in terms of design. But the may speaks to me a lot more.

Perhaps the solution is to buy a pre own Mayu, and use the savings to buy the SS GO!!
