Some people idolized him as a demi-god; others reviled him, but I can think of no one who, with any objectivity, could disagree with the statement that he was a great man.
Biel/Bienne, 28 June 2010 - With deep sadness and regret we inform you that Mr. Nicolas G. Hayek, Chairman and Delegate of the Board of Directors of The Swatch Group Ltd. unexpectedly passed away today due to heart failure during work at his beloved Swatch Group.
I had the great honor to interview Mr. Hayek a few years back, and what comes through today as clearly as it did those many years ago is the power, the vision, the humour of the man.

read WSJ interview 2 weeks back, article ended with another infamous Hayek quote, which left a deep impression
"think about your home; practically everything you have is electornic - dishwasher, TV, radio, phone, ipod, computer - even your memory is now in a computer. You have nothing anymore that reminds you of the timeswhen human beings were making objects of art with their own hands. And that is why I am doing it. Our watches are not measuring instruments to know what time it is. You can do that, but our watches are more - they are art. We put in all our watches, Switzerland."
it started with a swatch and now......
thank you thank you thank you
