Perpetually PuristS 2010 - NEW YORK

 

Dear friends,

 

It is with tremendous excitement and pride for me to present to you the "Perpetually PuristS 2010 in New York". I was honored to be entrusted with the organizing effort, and was thrilled to be in the company of some very avid collectors and watch lovers!

 

 

   

The brutal snowstorm that has been pounding the Northeast has finally come to a momentary stop this weekend, and a group of us, some brave souls even from Pennsylvania and Boston, congregated for lunch at the Porterhouse New York in the Time Warner Center. It's a premier steak-house situated a central and upscale midtown location, with beautiful New American decor. More importantly, it's a big, airy restaurants with large windows, providing us with plenty of natural light for viewing the watches.

 

At around 12 noon, people started to come in. We hanged around the bar area, drank some light white and red wine, while waiting for everyone to arrive and for our table to get ready.

 

Then, as we got seated, the first thing everyone did was taking off his watch(s) and passing it(them) around, causing everybody to uncontrollably whip out the camera...

Wait! What's that thing on your wrist? I thought you would only wear watches that are 40mm or less!=)

 

 

With the exception of a Patek annular and a very rare manual-wind Grand Seiko, a cursory look at what's on the table would indicate that this is a crowd that likes big and sporty watches - two IWC oversized perpetuals, a GO Senator Navigator Perpetual, Roger Dubuis Excalibur, Panerais, Sarpavena K3, and MANY Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Limited Editions (more on this later)

We were so immersed, that the waitress had to come back 3 times to ask us whether we were ready to order...

Throughout the lunch, I just kept handling and admiring the watches. Who needs a view from the window?  A group of nice watches in front of you is the best view!

 

 

Hornback crocodile strap on the Sarpaneva K3 is an interesting touch.

Anyone likes that red rubber strap?=)

 

 

On the left is a very special IWC Big Pilot Perpetual "Bucherer" in steel. Limited Edition of 70 pieces.

 

 

The times on these pieces are all set differently to show the cross-over to March 1st in different stages.

 

 

Although the three-course meal was superb and the six different bottles of wine that we drank were very interesting, for me food and wine became an after thought amidst such beautiful horological creations, and I forgot to take photos of of the epicurean delights!

Daytona in "Ever Rose". So beautiful and warm... It appears to have a much stronger red tone than normal rose gold. (see left and right, for comparisons)

 

Another shot of the IWC Big-Pilot Perpetual "Bucherer" - a cool mixture of delicate micro-mechanics and rugged military-gear.

Many stunning timepieces, and friends to share them with. What else? Oh yes, food.

Some desirable ROO, delightful Pateks, the almighty IWC Big Pilot perpetual and many other interesting timepieces. The GO Senator Navigator Perpetual is really growing on me, a very nice perpetual watch.

I love the Sarpaneva/Panerai shot, both look great on those straps combinations.

It was a pleasure meeting you and the other Purists.  I truly enjoyed handling the other watches and there was some serious firepower on the table. The best part was during the table shot picture. We were located in the center of the room and it was interesting to see the bemused faces gaping at our antics. I know they thought we were crazy but I'll take this kind of crazy every time.

What a great event. Thanks for sharing it. I was particularly interested to see the PC watches with moonphase as the full moon corresponded with the change of months and the end of the Lunar New Year celebrations. The GO and Patek PC’s looked perfect for the occasion. And the red strap amongst all those watches surely brings some good luck as well!

As I shot most of my photos with the macro lens (even from afar, as I didn't wish to lose precious time by changing lenses), your wide-angle group shots are splendid!!

Also, the wrist shots of the Pateks are very sharp!

I hope you will slowly think about AP ROOs, after this lunch. =)

....is not a perpetual calendar but stands out with the exclusive PuristS Red strap and the funky 4-handed seconds' hand.

I don't use my red strap enough....er....actually never
