Horological Meandering

Here is a sneak peek at two of the novelties Cartier will unveil at SIHH 2008 in Geneva from 7 to 12 April. The Ballon Bleu was one of my favourite Cartier watches from 2007, and as I predicted in my SIHH 2007 report here , Cartier has introduced the Ballon Bleu on a leather strap which will look smashing.

Ballon bleu de Cartier watch in pink gold, large model (42mm)
Case in 18 carat pink gold. Hours, minutes, seconds and date functions. 18 carat, pink gold, fluted crown set with a blue sapphire cabochon. Silver opaline dial, guilloché and lacquered, with black Roman numerals and a date-window at 3 o’clock. Sword-shaped hands in blued steel. Sapphire watch-glass. Alligator-skin strap with folding buckle in 18 carat pink gold. Mechanical movement with automatic winding, Cartier calibre 049. Water resistant to 30 metres /100 feet (3 bars).

Case in 18 carat white gold set with round diamonds and two freshwater pearls. White mother-of-pearl dial featuring a flinqué pattern (hand-engraved and covered with enamel. Dark grey, brushed canvas strap, ardillon buckle in 18 carat, white gold set with round diamonds. Quartz movement. 389 diamonds weighing approximately 2.9 carats.

While I do like most of Cartier's asymmetric ladies jewellery watches, this one looks odd. The design just doesn't work IMHO.

This Catier is too odd for me, personnaly...

But, as always, tastes...

As for Lady watches, I prefer by far the Breguet Reine de Naples, and the WWTC GP for lady, as the one Bill offered to hiw wife.

The shape is more of a bracelet i.e. jewelery so it is odd as a watch format.

But you are right about the Breguet.  Very elegant looking classic watch.  Cartier has some in a similar view also not pix to hand.

I do have a picture of the WWTC GP for lady.
