I love this kind of cases, but I would never put watches inside. This is a superb gift for burglars. And I know what I mean....

...like you I live in a pretty safe area as far as that goes (California). But I'm thinking about a small safe for fireproof reasons (papers, etc.). And it will force me to consolidate all of the stuff I have all over various parts of the house : )
so sorry for your loss BUT...best is to insure your watches and wear them
the risk is not only in the box but also when you wear them..so why not insure them and enjoy? It is indeed an extra cost, but worth it in my opinion.

Congrats! I say display and enjoy! I had the same hesitation when I got my first watch box but I actually find this more convenient because the box makes it that much easier to put all the watches in the safe when I'm away from home.
