It’s a 50s Hanhart 417
I guess it appears modern because the modern watches are mimicking it? But the tell tale sign is the subdial position on the modern watches usually have them cram towards the centre of the dial and don’t have the balanced look of the vintage.

I just love the design of these 2 register chronographs and the story about their history. I love Speedy and El Primero too, can’t tell which I love more though. The story behind them are also fasinating. NASA test and the race to produce the first automatic chronograph...
Discounting technical significance and concentrating on aesthetics alone . . .
. . . my preference might be for the Hanhart. Unsure if they were the originators of the design, as there were others.

Yes I think it’s the Hanhart flieger chronograph
first set out this deisgn language of later pilot chronographs.
If you're asking why the 417 is such a personally compelling design, my take . . .
. . . is that the offset smaller-than-usual sub-dials set it apart from most others.
Not that I know this for a fact, but my hunch is there's a golden ratio aspect to the layout and proportions of the 417's dial.
