Electronic time setting on mechanical watches
I noticed blogs on an innovation from Ressence. Is this concept a good, bad or neutral idea?

I saw this news yesterday too and I find it very interesting. I hope to see more things about this watch (maybe the prototype in real) next week at the SIHH

I should separate the functional from the philosphical. certainly interesting technically but is the the right thing to do with mechnaical watches? ...
maybe e-straps fall into the same category?
We had a similar approach in the past even if it was not the same purpose: the EMC by Urwerk
The watch was 100% mechanical but the electronic device was used to set the accuracy. I was honestly disturbed by the presence of this electronic part even if the watch could work without.I will see next week how Ressence handles this situation.

As with many things, it think the idea is neutral.
Whether it’s good or bad will depend on execution and each persons perspective on what they’re looking for in a mechanical watch.
For me, I am not interested in this development. It just isn’t what interests me. If I were to consider an electro-mechanical movement, it would likely be a spring drive, which in my opinion applies this kind of technology in a way that provides more benefits for timekeeping.
But I suppose I applaud Ressence for coming up with something that we haven’t seen before and that causes us to ask these kinds of questions. It’s certainly more fun than discussing case size and dial color!
