Same watch in SS and precious metal - your thoughts?
I have a small collection of steel watches, each of which I consider perfect in its way. I would like to add one or two gold watches for variety and for wearing on special occasions.
The problem is that I cannot find any gold watch that I like as much as any of my present watches (I tend to be fussy and am put off by small details) and I am seriously thinking about simply buying gold versions of one or two of them. I wonder if I am just being unimaginative.
Is it just silly to have both gold and steel versions of the same watch? Is it better to diversify or is it fine to stick with what you like?
Your thoughts?
(To be specific, my present watches are AP 15202, Rolex GMT 16710, Rolex Explorer 114270, JLC Reverso TT 1931 black, and JLC Geophysic TT 1958; I am thinking of the Geophysic 1958 gold and/or the Reverso in gold and chocolate.)
Perhaps it's a bit funny
but I have Pated 5960 both in steel and platinum. Steel with silver/white dial, platinum with black dial. The watches are very different and I wear them differently.

I think that if you like your watches it is fair to buy some of them in another material.
For me the Geophyisic in gold and the 15202 in gold.

The Reverso in gold and chocolate dial is really different from the one you already own in my opinion and not just a different metal. So I would go for this one

It depends
How are you where are your watches. If you like and if you do watch and you want to really do feel for is hardiness then go for a practical one but if you want to wear it dressily then go for the gold. Gold tends to dent and scratch easily so it tends to look worn. The feel of a precious metal is very different than that of steel. Steel feels cold so does titanium. The precious metal watch case seems to keep one's body temperature thereby making it feel more like a part of one's own body. I personally love a precious metal Moser venturer and a JlC MUT moon (steel) to give you a comparison.
The reverso in gold is a step away from the absolute sprit of the reverso. I speak from experience as I have a gold reverso and a steel one.
I find this totally appropriate, almost expected. You chose your SS beauties for a reason. I, for example, have several of the PP 5980, differing simply by metal/bracelet/strap of choice. And I love them each for his own reasons 😊 [nt]

Certainly yes with no doubt...
...but you should not be surprised by my answer if you read the forum regularly as you probably know that I did it myself and enjoy both versions equally, depending on the situation formal or casual...
I can obviously recommend you to think seriously before pulling the trigger but this is valid for any purchase...
