Nearly as nifty as a Nixie
Thank you Patrick for that great article on Nixie clocks. I've always wanted one - it's a throwback to my youth.
In the mid-Sixties I wanted to drop math in high school, but my counselor wouldn't let me go to auto shop - she sent me into electronics shop instead. I didn't know we were on the cusp switching from vacuum tube to solid state devices - but I learned the theory and practice of both.
Anyway, 15-20 years ago I found this great Roman Numeral clock from Mr Harry Landis in Massachusetts. He originally distributed this through Heathkit, who sent you the parts to assemble it yourself. Back in the day ...
Imagine today if a product came with instructions for troubleshooting -- including rewiring, soldering and spare parts!

The owners manual to that clock is a lot more advanced than the Nixie Clocks I've seen!

And I thought assembling IKEA furniture is the most complex process on earth ;)

Our Michael is crazy...
I'd just pay the extra amount to have it come assembled. What if I solder something wrong? But you can always count on our Michael to do things the EXCITING way!
I miss IKEA furniture. Back in college my friends used to have me come over to assemble their Ikea furniture with them. In exchange they'd treat me to dinner. Good memories.

I didn't build my clock, I bought it from the Man
Later our previous man in Wales (before MTF) named Graham G99 bought one too and had it specced for 240v 50hz. Sadly a short while later he had a kitchen fire and the clock got damaged.
