Dear All, I am just back from La Manufacture Janvier where I have met Vianney Halter busy working as usual on several timepieces. He showed me something that puzzled me though I thought I know almost everything about the VH Classic. Here-attached is a picture of a UNIQUE Vianney Halter Classic (Sorry for the poor quality, I am not a good photographer).

It is true to say that the VH Classic is not a common piece, as only 250 pieces were produced. However, THIS Classic has something special. Guess what ! Cheers. Philippe M

I believe this one has a silver dial, similar to the Classic Janvier. A beauty!

I think there may be 3 or 4 of these pieces.

The regular Classic has brushed outer ring and frosted centre, while this dial has a much finer frosted finishing for both parts.

That's for sure - or is it?

However, possibly this mysterious substance was applied directly to the STEEL - yes? - or to the aluminium dial .

Or it is the material itself, with no coating being applied at all - even inside the sapphire glass.

Otherwise it could possibly be the finest (and perhaps only) purely dress watch that Vianney has ever done - while the rest of us retreat into the shadows.

I feel some of you, gentlemen, have guessed how special is this unique Classic. Here-attached are two other timepieces by Vianney Halter with the same feature.

I am sure that now everything is clear.

Indeed, this unique VH CLassic is fitted with an oxydized silver dial in lieu of the standard rhodium plated brass dial (though "standard" is certainly not an appropriate word for a Vianney Halter timepiece).

This dial is similar to those installed in the VH Goldpfeil JHMP and, more recently, in the Classic Janvier.

Congratulations to Tahoe Blue (however, I suspect he has confidential informations from Vianney himself).

Oxydized Silver gives an exclusive satin white finish and allows the marking to be engraved in the metal and filled with black resin, instead of being simply printed.

This dial was of course entirely made in La Manufacture Janvier, most of the work done by Vianney himself.

On his recent visit to Australia, Bertrand Bourgeois of Manufacture Janvier explained that the last couple of Classics would have this special dial as a consequence of its development for the Classic Janvier, but your explanation and photographs greatly help us to understand the points of difference.

But I guess this dial can be also mounted on the couple of last VH Classic that La Manufacture Janvier has held in its stock.

Probably also possible is a retrofitting of a preowned Classic (however, this should directly be asked to Vianney or Bertrand ...)

This may be the excuse for inviting bids of creative ideas from ThePurists, just to try to guess what is in the pipeline or even more to orientate or to arouse VH creativity.

What about a 40 mm diameter, stainless steel case Classic ?

A great photo - never have seen the like of that before.

You are a very lucky guy if you can call this one your own.

And please do have your VHJH registered and regularly serviced. Believe me, it is worth it!
